@DGlaucomflecken As someone with amblyopia I am very grateful for my ophthalmologist. Because I got glasses at a young age I was able to get some vision back in my left eye. My youngest also has it. Got glasses earlier than I did. Now she wears contacts and has 20/20 vision corrected.

The most dangerous grift in ophthalmology right now is “glasses are harmful.” People that claim diet, exercise, and a 10 part instructional webinar can help you live spectacle free! No. Stop it. It’s not a big deal for most adults. They will lose some money before realizing that no amount of exercise and bull testicle consumption will fix their presbyopia. But those same adults have kids. If young kids don’t get the glasses they need, their brains won’t develop normal vision. I’m talking permanent vision loss. I have seen it happen. It’s awful and entirely preventable.

@olsonplanner Interesting. I wanted to be a doctor from when as long as I can remember. I had three kids when I started (5, 3 and 11 months). Added three more during Med school/res/fellowship. I don’t regret any minute of it. It’s do-able. Flexibility and prioritization are the keys

We have a day every week called Papa Day. He and I make breakfast, clean the bathrooms, then head out for the day looking for trains, going to parks or the woods. Just the two of us. Going to med school would surely stop this, and I love doing it. Hence my hesitation.
