Everything I ever did, all that I am. The fanaticism. The weirdness. The sneers, the jabs. Being laughed at. Being confused. The obsession. It all boils down to this one moment. Or does it? #66thNationalAwards ift.tt/35QNpFY

@Dev_Fadnavis regular electricity shortage in Thane. 3-hour power cut on Sunday, and there’s been no power today for the past 4 hours. No clear response or reason given by @MSEDCL. Add that to DAILY traffic congestion & water shortage, life for ppl in Ghodbunder is a living hell.

The intersection near Khan Market, Delhi is blocked more than an hour because a “Princess” (not joking, this is what I was told) is browsing books at Bahrisons. I gotta catch a flight. Don’t know whether to laugh or cry or just keep banging my head.

Midnight 31 Dec is astronomically meaningless. Nothing happens. No equinox or solstice. It’s just a planet mid-spin in the middle of another lap around an unremarkable G-type star. But for a certain species, the new year counts as optimism of a respectable order. It’s absurd. Like every other bit of storytelling we do. We stitch our days from what we tell; without the tale, we fare less well. Storytelling is all we have. So Happy New Year to all of us, magnificent, perishable fools. The story continues for one more chapter. Let’s make it a good one.

@SatyendraAtal @nirupamakotru @JoyBimal @jaiarjun @shamyad In my opinion, Ghatak's connect was actually a tad better than his contemporaries. His films are emotional experiences. Over the years, I've seen people of various ages (and cultures) break down watching Meghe Dhaka Tara. I've seen it in Assam, Kolkata & more recently in Juhu.

@nirupamakotru @JoyBimal @jaiarjun @shamyad @amborish A filmmaker needs to connect with his viewers, which Ghatak failed to do, he may be a genius for some but for me he was a convoluted filmmaker , there was a festival of his films at Nandan, the way the bengali film going crowd expressed their disappointment was to be seen

A #SatyajitRay bhakt promoting a book on #RitwikGhatak ?(my Tshirt says "Lost in the Ray universe"and depicts scenes from four Ray films). Irony? Blasphemy? I believe it is neither. A true cinephile embraces films from different masters. Also to my mind, healthy rivalry and competition indicate that you and your contemporaries care about your work. All of us tend to compare ourselves with our peers, don't we?Some amount of professional jealousy is normal. Some film makers are commercially more successful and some get more traction in their own lifetime. Ghatak's contemporaries were definitely luckier in this respect. Both Ray and MrinalSen had many more loyal followers and won more accolades than Ghatak, both at home and abroad.Yet there is something about this man that continues to attract people to him. Maybe people now realize that his gruff exterior hid a vulnerable interior. That he tried to bury his sorrow and hide his pain by hitting the bottle. People write their PhD thesis on Ghatak.Teachers of cinema often use his films to teach students about cinematic techniques. His use of music is still talked about. His partition trilogy is back in discussion coz of recent world events, and so on... A century after his birth,it's time to reclaim Ghatak as our own. As part of our rich cinematic heritage. Let us come together to celebrate this maverick, this genius, this enfant terrible of cinema whose ghost stil haunts @FTIIOfficial for sure. Ghatak zindabad. Do read Shamya's anthology. I haven't contributed but I gave outside support(in the same manner that @p1j often supports writers and film makers 😊). Three of the contributors to this anthology also wrote for #SwingingSeventies : @jaiarjun @amborish and #KetanMehta, besides @shamyad himself. And then there's another common friend @JoyBimal Roy. Doston ki kitaab hai. Padhiyega zaroor. And if like me, you haven't watched too many Ghatak films because of the language barrier, fret not. Some of his films are now available with subtitles on OTT. Start your journey of discovering Ghatak today.

This one had some brilliant songs by Jagjit Singh and Lata Mangeshkar, some of which later found their way to a private album named "Ada". Especially "Main kaise kahoon janeman" and "Dono ke dil hain majboor pyar se". Music by Basu Chakraverty.

"In Raj Khosla's films, songs were storytelling devices. It is an art that Guru Dutt taught him" - @amborish , author, 'Raj Khosla; The Authorized Biography' talks to me on the Books&Authors podcast on Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/4EFc4b…
