@SOLmateStables @BQuillmanQcast You see a large number of Academic All Americans at the so-called “non fancy” schools and a large number of regular All Americans come from the “fancy” schools. Across all D3 sports.

@BQuillmanQcast 100% agree and at those ‘fancy’ schools typically the best players that start and play the most minutes are not the top students at the school and are just trying to survive in classes with perfect score SAT type kids so their GPA is not what it would be someplace else.

There are great basketball players who are also great students at a bunch of schools across #d3hoops…not just the fancy ones.
SOLmate Stables 🌹#solmvp@SOLmateStables

@BQuillmanQcast Tbh ..Doesn’t make much sense at all that a list like that doesn’t have Amherst, Williams, Tufts, Chicago etc.. UAA and NESCAC should be dominating that list for d3.

The last throw has landed. The last stadium walk is over. There are a total of 8 National Meet Appearances and 6 track All American awards in this photo. Not equally distributed though…thanks for the ride Jenae. It’s been a blast.

Parents! Chill out… Your child’s ability to play sports doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. I have a son who isn’t very good at basketball. He likes to fish! I don’t care as long as he’s happy. I’m living my life and I’m letting him live his.

One of my first posts on X that got some notice years ago (re-posted by @Lauren_Southern I think) was on exercise and depression. I know depression medications are currently taking a beating here. Perhaps rightfully so. But. The best data looking at depression and exercise can best be summarized by exercise is equivalent in mild cases and probably moderate cases. But severe cases are their own beast. Exercise helps with severe cases. An adjunct. But we do not have great data on equivalence. Severe depression is not a moral failing nor an exercise deficiency. It is its own thing. The physiology of which I’d argue we still do not understand that well yet. And treatments for it more of a hammer than a scalpel. The overuse of SRRIs (which is undoubtedly true) is not a lay person’s license to ignorantly suggest someone abruptly stop an SSRI and simply exercise. The dark end point of severe depression is suicide and attempts at it. So. Mind your business.

Had my first experience last night with a youth baseball team (kindergarten tee-ball!!) that was clearly some sort of "all star" team. I would be surprised if >1/2 of the team were even kindergartners. My son is 95%ile for height, and he was only taller than 1 of their players.

@CoachBrewster50 Center is a unique position IMO. Ball handling and the DL is closer to you than any other position. OG has more in common with OT than with Center.

@LogHanRatings I wondered. Both tenures dropped off at the end. The highlight was getting Northwestern to the Rose Bowl.

@amboymoose I sincerely like where your head's at, but I'm not sure Coach Barnett would even rank as a net positive for his tenure at either Northwestern or Colorado.

Does anyone have other ideas for coaches who engineered a great turnaround? Any coach in FBS/D1-A history. Doesn't have to be a huge name (who would've thought Bill Clark would be so high?) I came up w/ one last night: Matt Campbell. Fit into the list between Stoops/Harbaugh.
Logan Hansen@LogHanRatings

I got A LOT of comments about excluding Bill Snyder from my list of "greatest" (I put it in quotations for a reason!) coaches of all time. He has an argument for 2nd-best turnaround artist ever (now that Cignetti has done what he has), but...

Who will design the honorary pin for all the coaches that physically drove to meet a coach personally on a Saturday morning to exchange film? How many of you are there that have earned this pin?

It feels like this cycle we’ve seen more D2 & D3 head coaches leave to take D1 assistant position than ever before. Is the salary differential the biggest factor, the size of D1 staffs or just a change in mindset?

I’ve spent more years on the sideline coaching/officiating than I have as a parent. The actions of parents and the need to express their opinions about everything that happens in the game is unsettling. To the parents that seek the far corner and keep to yourself, I salute you!

How do you help your players work with jobs and still join team events and lifting in the summer? I'm looking for some good ideas to encourage attendance. I'm at a new program that has struggled and summer attendance isn't great.

@CoachTatum90 Train initial techniques early in season or summer. Stance, drive, down, etc. In season use Indy time using the techniques in the setting of running the plays in your offense. Have at least 2-3 players working together and often all five. Who and how to block at same time.

Some of the most underrated jobs in football❗️ The guy making sure the headsets are connected. The one hunting down an extra mouthguard. The one fixing a helmet 30 seconds before kickoff. And of course the one who somehow always knows where everything is, everyone has one of those guys lol These guys are the real MVP!

This morning I was talking to one of the attorneys we work with. He’s also been a high school basketball referee for years. I brought up this topic, and his response was interesting. He said you barely see the parent craziness in high school. By then, everyone already knows which kids are actually elite, and which ones aren’t. There’s no illusion left. It’s really just a younger kids phenomenon where every parent thinks their kid exceptional. Reality shows up eventually.
StripMallGuy@realEstateTrent

Yesterday, my six-year-old son had his first Little League game of the year. I absolutely kid you not when I say I think at least a third of the parents on the team truly believe their son will one day make the major leagues.

Knee Osteoarthritis... Thread #2 ! Your knee hurts. Your instinct is to rest it. Please don't. That instinct is very often wrong — and following it makes osteoarthritis worse, not better. Movement is one of the best evidence-based primary treatments for knee OA. Here's why. 🧵
