@lilamina11 @AvaLeeMosley This is to cover sales taxes. Most countries have a form of VAT or some other sales tax. If you are a non-US citizen using the .com site, Amazon needs to accommodate that. They do this at the cost of the author.

@lilamina11 @AvaLeeMosley When I mention taxes, I mean from a purchaser POV. So, if you're based in Canada and you buy a book on the .com site rather than the .ca site then Amazon will pay that author the 35% royalty rate rather than the 70% (assuming it is priced between $2.99-9.99).
