BREAKING: Johns Hopkins along with 12 peer institutions and Assoc of Amer Univ sues to stop drastic cuts in NIH funding. This is separate from lawsuit brought by 22 states, which also includes Maryland. Hopkins prez cites our 600 clinical trials that would be crippled by the cut.

Also I cannot imagine that this order requires $25 of ice, considering that I literally have to boil the RNaseA before using it, and gel red is stored at room temp.

Our resource coordinator said we haven't been able to negotiate better shipping costs with Sigma. But there is no way this is reasonable, right?

Absolutely shocked that for an order containing 2 tubes of Gel Red and 1 RNaseA powder, @MilliporeSigma is charging us $61.69 in shipping plus $25 in ice. In what world???

Our Spotlight on beautiful work from the de Lange (@SarahWCai et al), Walz, and Cech labs. At the end, it is POT1 again: Phosphorylation allows human telomeric protein POT1 to recruit the C-rich strand end replication machinery: Molecular Cell cell.com/molecular-cell…

Also considering I've only used AKTA before, but my department is looking to replace an end-of-life BioRad one (so misc parts/components are already here)

I know yall biochemists have strong opinions about things....how do you feel about AKTA vs BioRad for FPLCs? Performance, user interface, maintenance, etc.

The discoveries by Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman – awarded the 2023 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine – were critical for developing effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19 during the pandemic that began in early 2020. Through their groundbreaking findings, this year’s laureates have fundamentally changed our understanding of how mRNA interacts with our immune system. They have contributed to the unprecedented rate of vaccine development during one of the greatest threats to human health in modern times.

What a pleasant surprise! PDBe featured our recently published structure of human POT1 bound to the telomeric ds-ss junction. See 👇 thread for more details of our study. twitter.com/LabNandakumar/…

This week's #PDB release has 315 new entries (PDBe.org/latest)! Here is a structure of ‘Protection of telomeres 1’ / POT1 protein bound to ds-DNA with an overhang. ‘POT-hole’ - see orange-red phosphate at end of shorter DNA. Published @Science ➡️ PDBe.org/8sh1

@ZHallberg Might be possible - look up the manual for the Sera-Mag Select beads and the "right-sided size selection" which helps you select for the smaller DNAs!
