A staggering 45m children under five are experiencing acute malnutrition at any given time. To end malnutrition, we need to be more rigorous + strategic. In Rome, I announced @USAID will host an evidence summit on wasting research in Dec to shape a new evidence agenda.

The fact that these trend lines are going up rather than down is completely unacceptable in an age where we have more than enough resources to ensure every person in the world receives the food they need.

The number of people suffering from hunger today is significantly higher than it was 15 years ago, according to the UN's latest State of Food Insecurity report. 733 million people were hungry last year, a major increase from 604 million in 2010.

Today, we honor those who have dedicated their lives to humanitarian work, including those who have been killed or been injured while helping others.

I'm particularly thankful to my colleagues at the Movement Against Malnutrition and the International Rescue Committee. Humanitarian workers are critical to delivering life-saving treatment to children dying of hunger.

2023 was the deadliest year on record for humanitarian workers, and this year could be even worse. Today on #WorldHumanitarianDay, I'm grateful to humanitarian workers around the world, especially those who put their lives at risk to deliver essential services to those in need.

I witnessed how lifesaving treatment–known as RUTF–has an over 90% recovery rate, and how far caregivers will travel to obtain it for children. The world must do more to ensure that this simple, scalable solution reaches all the children who need it in Sudan & everywhere.

More than 9 million from Sudan have fled their homes. 4 million children are malnourished. Almost 5 million are on the brink of famine. But not nearly enough aid is arriving. The Movement Against Malnutrition & @RESCUEorg staff have been bravely working to respond.

I traveled to the border of Sudan & South Sudan earlier this year, witnessing the catastrophic impact of the world’s largest displacement crisis, with a particularly devastating effect on children. This month marks a year since the start of the most recent Sudan conflict.

There are many horrific injustices for which we don't have proven solutions, but preventing children from dying of hunger is not one of them. I invite you to join our Movement Against Malnutrition to help bring life-saving treatment to every child who needs it.
