Yesterday, during the Ram Navami procession, shops belonging to Muslims were set on fire and vandalized in Murshidabad. When asked, 'Why were Muslim-owned shops set on fire?', he responded, 'Why are you mentioning the name of a particular community?' The CJI bench has ordered the Calcutta HC for a “tribunal appellate” to hear all the cases of voters who have been deleted post review by Judicial Officers. As per the 2 supplementary lists released till last night, almost 10 lakh+ voters faced deletion without any way forward. It seems the “tribunal” is simply ON PAPER only without any clear guidelines on their functioning, timelines, process of application, process of review. With still approximately 20L+ under adjudication reviews pending, and elections almost at the doorstep, a complete MAYHEM has been unleashed by ECI in Bengal with the highest judiciary fully COMPLICIT! Lakhs of legitimate voters have been left completely ABANDONED without any proper channel of redressal with the Supreme Court making things WORSE with every hearing!

The entire Bar Association of Bengal should hang their head in shame for this violation of democratic rights of one of their own. In West Bengal’s SIR, nearly 6 million voters have been placed “under adjudication.” Decisions have already been taken in ~3.2 million cases, and roughly 40% of them could be DELETED. What happens to those whose names are deleted from the voter list? Will they be marked as “D-VOTERS” (doubtful voters), as seen in Assam? Or could they be treated as suspected citizens and pushed into detention centres? Hon’ble HM @AmitShah had earlier stated in Parliament that the objective of SIR is to “DETECT, DELETE, AND DEPORT” illegal infiltrators. Documents of those under adjudication are currently being examined by judicial officers. If names are removed, individuals can appeal before tribunals. But if they fail there as well, they will be classified as “non-citizens”, opening the door to DETENTION and DEPORTATION. This increasingly resembles an attempt to replicate the Assam model in Bengal. In Assam, those marked as D-voters were referred to Foreigners’ Tribunals and sent to detention centres with limited or inadequate opportunity to appeal. Currently, there is no clarity on whether those excluded will be allowed to reapply for inclusion through Form 6. If this is not a systematic attempt to DISENFRANCHISE citizens, then what is? @ECISVEEP cannot hide behind procedure while millions face the risk of being arbitrarily stripped of their democratic rights. Silence, opacity and shifting goalposts only deepen suspicion. And @BJP4India must answer - is this governance, or a calculated exercise in VOTER EXCLUSION? Turning citizenship into a bureaucratic trap and voting rights into a privilege is a DIRECT ASSAULT ON DEMOCRACY.

I do not want to question the integrity & neutrality of Judicial Officers but how can this happen? This is just one instance, there are many more cases like this. Is this happening because Judges are overburdened? Did the Supreme Court commit a mistake by allowing EC to conduct SIR in this hurried manner?

Protests against deletion of voters by @ECISVEEP in different parts of Bengal are emerging. No political parties are understanding the problems if these huge number of people become D Voters what will be their fate? This will create law & order problems also.
