In 2024, Saanich Police stopped 628 impaired drivers, the most since the Province instituted the Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP). 278 of of these drivers lost their license for 90-days and their vehicle for 30, and 13% of the drivers held a class 7 license. Recently, a group of Indian students held protest in Brampton, while demanding resolution to their problems. These students are thousands of kilometers away from their country and parents, who went to Canada for studies and career. An impaired driver was stopped doing 123kph in a 50 zone on Sunday night. They lost their license for 90 days and their vehicle for 30. We also took 10 other impaired drivers off the road this past weekend. Impaired driving is a serious threat to public safety.
