@maksym_andr @tomgoldsteincs I agree with Maks. Plus (from my experience) when you have really scarce data or significant shifts at test-time, early stopping really helps

@tomgoldsteincs i’d say one still needs early stopping for datasets with a significant amount of label noise. there one can clearly see the overfitting trend for deep nets. so perhaps what really “changed” is that now we are a bit overfocused on (nearly) noiseless datasets like CIFAR-10/ImageNet
