Election in German state Rhineland. ATHEISTS voted "more right" than Protestants and Catholics, who were least likely to vote right. The same phenomenon we see in Eastern Germany.

The first Dionysian groupie-shagging rock star who went from city to city driving the women into a frenzy and bedding as many of them as he could was not Elvis or even Sinatra but Franz Liszt, who did this in 19th century Europe. They called it Lisztomania

The intensification of sexuality & glorification of the male sexual impulse which BAP calls for is exactly what the cult of rock n roll was from its inception with Elvis all the way through to the 80s, which is why Paglia called rock n roll the fullest expression of the Dionysian

Why have testosterone levels been rising over time? The testosterone levels of American men are up compared to what they used to be, but no one has a good explanation. Let's look through some possibilities🧵

The Ancient Greeks and Romans probably did not paint their statues in gaudy, matte, heavily saturated colour as most museums claim. They *did* paint them, but: • A 1st-century AD mosaic from the Villa San Marco in Stabiae depicts a statue of a boxer with realistic shading. • Surviving frescos and mosaics from the Classical period show people painted with shading and highlights, the way we paint people today. • There is no evidence at all that they used the gaudy colours that are claimed they used today. I think there are two reasons that this claim has been made. One is just trolling: it is shocking and subversive to say that these cold, beautiful, austere statues would have been painted in such an ugly way by the Greeks and Romans. The second is as a form of relativism: if the Greeks and Romans really did think this looked good, then it suggests that our conceptions of beauty are not innate and universal, but socially constructed instead. worksinprogress.co/issue/were-cla…
