I am stepping into the role of interim co-ED @ethereumfndn to continue the progress that Tomasz has made over the last year.
Tomasz brought an energy and urgency that the EF needed at a critical time, and I join the community in thanking him for his work on behalf of the Foundation and the network.
This task isn't something that I take on lightly, knowing the weight of responsibility of the role through seeing it up close for some time, but it is one that I am prepared to handle.
I've served in a management position at the EF over many years, working closely with Hsiao-Wei, Tomasz, Josh Stark, Danny Ryan, Aya, and Vitalik at different points in time. My focus has been deliberately on illegible but essential work, helping management try to make well-informed decisions, working with EF's team leads, considering budgets, articulating strategy, setting priorities, and more.
The decisions I make will be guided by a principled insistence on the properties of what we're building (censorship resistance, open source, privacy, security). These properties are what make Ethereum relevant and competitive, and they are the foundation of Ethereum's value proposition to the world and everything the world builds on it; just as Ether is the foundational store-of-value that underpins every transaction across it; and just as both are indispensable to the EF's own treasury.
The mandate of the EF is to make sure that real permissionless infrastructure, cypherpunk at its core, is what gets built. Ethereum should outlast us, and it has been our job from the beginning to make sure it is robust enough to do so. I, and the rest of the EF, will work alongside other members of the community - core protocol contributors, researchers and client implementers, auditors and whitehats, incident responders, spec authors, solo stakers and validator operators, node runners, MEV gremlins, rollup and L2 teams, bridge and interoperability integrators, UX and product builders, infra providers and tooling maintainers, educators, community organizers, forum crews, lurkers, and free software advocates, grant-givers and culture-makers, artists, memers, cypherpunks, cyberanarchists, Landian accelerationists, financepunks, femboys, soundcloud rappers, transgenders, disinformationalists, cyborgs, anons, revolutionaries, shitposters, trolls, federal lists, hypebeasts, pirates, preppers, the bros, incels - to make it last 1000 years or more.

@cobie @Crypto_McKenna A person I have known for more than ten years, who I consider trustworthy, is convinced the cryptocurrency economy will shortly experience a systemic risk. I don’t know anything concrete, but if I were exposed, I would be concerned.

Vitalik is fully leaning into the cypherpunk ethos of Ethereum.
This is the right move imo. Frankly, I've wanted to see Ethereum marketing and building focus on this theme for a very long time and been highly frustrated that it's not.
Some express concerns that this approach will not be 'commercial' enough or be the best (or even a good) path to accruing value to ETH--I disagree, but of course this is a 'bet' and reasonable minds can differ on the subject.
Ethereum's engineering roadmap and selected set of tradeoffs really only make sense with the cypherpunk ethos being front-and-center. Read @0xstark 's essay, "Ethereum's Distinctive Property is Hardness". With zk proofs, anyone will be able to verify Ethereum with a phone. With FOCIL, Ethereum will be the first blockchain to enshrine an anti-censorship rule in its protocol rather than merely incenting censorship-resistance.
You can't be all things to all people. Just because Solana is doing well at some points and has selected radically different tradeoffs, does not mean "well let's jack up the gas limit to the point where all block producers need sophisticated data center setups so we can compete with Solana". You have to gear all your marketing and culture-building around the actual engineering path and tradeoffs that actually have been/are being selected, and play to the strengths of that and be willing to be honest about the tradeoffs and why they are being selected.
In short, ETH goes hard and what is being built is very radical and in some ways paradoxical--a bet that the chain that gives the least fucks about institutions and any particular parochial government will nonetheless be the most attractive for institutions and governments to build on.

One metaphor for Ethereum is BitTorrent, and how that p2p network combines decentralization and mass scale. Ethereum's goal is to do the same thing but with consensus. Another metaphor for Ethereum is Linux. * Linux is free and open source software, and does not compromise on this * Linux is quietly depended on by billions of people and enterprises worldwide. Governments regularly use it. * There are many operating systems based on Linux that pursue mass adoption * There are Linux distributions (eg. Arch) that are highly purist, minimalistic and technologically beautiful, and focus on making the user feel powerful, not comfortable (Actually, BitTorrent is depended on by enterprises too: many businesses and even governments (!!) use it to distribute large files to their users makeuseof.com/tag/8-legal-us… ) We must make sure that Ethereum L1 works as the financial (and ultimately identity, social, governance...) home for individuals and organizations who want the higher level of autonomy, and give them access to the full power of the network without dependence on intermediaries. At the same time, what Linux shows is that this is fully compatible with providing value to very large numbers of people, and even being loved and trusted by enterprises worldwide. Many enterprises in fact desperately want to build on an open and resilient ecosystem - what we call trustlessness, they call prudent counterparty risk minimization. This is the gwei.
