We love Monroe. My heart is with the greatest city on the planet. Last night seeing all the happy people visiting our downtown for Music on Main humbled me. The weather was beautiful, people were dancing and having fun with their friends and family. It was awesome! Just a few years ago our downtown wasn’t like this. So much has changed and it’s a blessing to witness. I’m thankful for all who came, all the vendors, the musicians, and all the incredible businesses who have poured their lives into our community. To our city teams, success! Great job. Proud of you.

He’s traveling around NC telling people that he was “tough on crime as Attorney General.” However, on his way out the door as North Carolina Governor, Roy Cooper pulled a classic last-minute move: commuting the death sentences of 15 convicted murderers to life without parole on December 31, 2024. These weren’t petty criminals, they were all on death row for first-degree murder, some of the most brutal killings in the state’s history. This was the largest single batch of capital clemency in North Carolina’s history. One stark example from the 15 commuted cases is Christopher Roseboro (also referred to as Christopher Lunore Roseboro), convicted in Gaston County for the brutal 1992 murder and rape of 72-year-old Martha “Gertie” Edwards in her Gastonia home. Don’t let Roy Cooper change the narrative.

Update: I’m continuing to work with multiple eyewitnesses and verified facts. Getting the truth right takes time, and I intend to do it the right way. I’m a mayor doing the best I can while juggling many responsibilities and preparing for the work ahead. But when something isn’t right, you don’t ignore it, you pursue the truth. What surprises me most is that no one has ever spoken about this before. It makes you wonder whether some people were simply afraid to. Fear has never built a stronger America and it won’t build a stronger North Carolina either.

Here we go again. The fake liberal media says I’m charging $5,000 for front-row tickets. They know damn well that’s not the full story. Those are extremely limited First Class seats like I explained  — FOUR tickets per row, first five rows only (5k per seat row 1, 4k row 2, 3k row 3, 2k row 4, 1k row 5) — Again ONLY 4 seats in rows 1 through 5 (20 "first class" seats in venues that hold 15k to 25k people) But instead of reporting facts or that lawn seats are only 50 bucks or how we are cutting out the scalpers, they twist it for headlines / clicks and to attack me - nothing new here. I WILL pray for them but I know that sooner or later God will cut ‘em down.

Yesterday this hit me too hard. I didn’t want to post about it right away. With my daughter heading back to college and my son just turning 18, they’re roughly the same age as these kids. Fletcher Harris (20) and Skylar Provenza (19) - two bright, beautiful young lives cut short in a head-on crash. The driver, Juan Alvarado Aguilar, an illegal immigrant, was allegedly drunk, crossed the center line, and has a prior DWI, failures to appear, and was driving on a revoked license - yet he remained in our communities. This isn’t equal justice. It’s a failure of accountability that let a dangerous repeat offender stay on our roads. I promise, with everything in me: I will fight for real justice. For judges and officials to be held accountable. For secure borders and swift action against criminal illegal immigrants. For victims like Fletcher and Skylar to get the justice they deserve - and for families like mine and yours to feel safe again. These two deserved better. North Carolina deserves better. Let’s build that momentum together.
