Holy Spirit was poured out on all flesh then, and our artistics images and the images we carry around in our minds should reflect that truth. I find it freeing. #Pentecost #HolySpirit #womenintheBible

So many icons of this even only include the 12 with flames above their heads. Others only include the 12 and Mary. The most accurate icons should probably be a huge crowd of around 120 (Acts 1:15).

As you celebrate Pentecost Sunday, remember it wasn’t just men in that Upper Room where Holy Spirit was poured out on all flesh. There were women, too.Acts 1:14 includes the women and Mary, Jesus’ mom among those who met regularly, and Acts 2:1 says they were ALL together.

But I am God’s. God will lead me. I really believe that. But I need to breathe it, to incorporate this ritual into my being, to convince my breath, my life, that it is true. Like the ancients did with the Jesus prayer, I think it needs to be my “prayer without ceasing” today.

I am God’s. God will lead me. To center myself, I walked around the garden breathing this for a while this morning. I feel un-centered because I struggle with insomnia and am feeling deeply the disappointments and uncertainty of this liminal underemployed space I occupy.

This is not an isolated event. We would do well to pay attention to it.

I don’t have a ritual for this. ince 2002, this time of year meant it was time for the ritual. I just completed a year of classes and I donned my cap and gown and marched with pomp and circumstance to celebrate the completion and new beginning at the ritual of Commencement.

I just want it to be a once-and-done-it-doesn’t-hurt-anymore ritual. It’s not. It’s a ritual I have to do over and over and over in this liminal state. Particularly now, today, when I feel the loss keenly.
