▪ While many paradigms exist, "reinforcement learning is the most general form of machine learning" :D
▪ Obviously, "there are no problems that [RL] cannot solve", supported by a 3-step argument
▪ Gratuitous citation (Bellman, 1957)

While we know that reinforcement learning in fact has no flaws, Galactica astutely observed that "it is important to note that the claim is incorrect"! Quite possibly not all problems can be solved by first formulating them as an MDP?

While our neighbors over at Rutgers(@RutgersU) rank as "Leader(s)" (13/130), our gender imbalance at NJIT "Needs Urgent Action." Thankfully I have awesome male allies at NJIT who support me, but ffs we can do better for everyone.

Ouch, a particularly disheartening ranking for us at NJIT (@NJIT) from the 2022 report: The Women's Power Gap at Elite Universities: Scaling the Ivory Tower. We have so few women in positions of power that we come in dead last (130/130).

I got promoted to Full Professor in 2020 but waited with my inaugural lecture so my parents could attend. Just want to say thank you to everyb. that made this possible, especially current&past members of @RoboEvoArtLab! It's a privilege to work with these amazing people every day

@Bam4d I’ve been advised that getting your Ph.D. is in some ways learning to write academically, and personally I have found it quite challenging.

@Bam4d I would never presume to tell you it is all okay or that the struggle is worth it, but there are a variety of traits that go into making a good academic. It is possible that your programming prowess took more time than you remember, that your writing is not as shit as you think.

@LiquidTextCorp That is a good question. I'll give it a proper try. Maybe my issues are more related to the amount of cognitive overhead faced when starting projects and navigating the file system!

@LiquidTextCorp BibTex support? I often upload the LT PDF to Overleaf to start writing with the keyboard. Once these projects separate, they are often difficult to rejoin. I end up scattered all over the place trying to keep everything together.

@LiquidTextCorp However, the first mention of a new arXiv paper sends me straight to Safari -> LT, and all bets are off if these projects or notes will rejoin in the future. Something like “PhD student: <name>” could both help me remember to write down the note header, and connect the projects.
