@asiimwe4justice @BernardSabiti @FIDA_Uganda The closing down of these organizations have negative impact even in the media sector where I work. We used to have adverts and campaigns, paid for content like talkshows. The printing and stationery sector at Nasser and Nkrumah roads have also been hit badly

A Number We Should Not Read Lightly Yesterday, I came across a headline that has stayed with me: “Panic as 4,800 NGOs collapse.” I did not read it lightly. This sector has been my home. I entered it as a first-year law student, volunteering at @FIDA_Uganda. It was there that my legal training found purpose. Over the years, the people in this space have become more than colleagues, they have become community, mentors, friends… family. And so when the sector bleeds, I feel it. At a CSO symposium in 2025, it was shared that Uganda had approximately 7,000 registered non-profit organizations. If the numbers reported are accurate, and over 4,000 have shut down, then we are not simply witnessing a statistic. We are witnessing a significant contraction of civic life. And I wonder if we are pausing long enough to take this in. Do we see what sits behind that number? Do we see: •The services that are interrupted or lost altogether? •The communities that must now navigate without support? •The jobs and livelihoods quietly disappearing? •The ideas and efforts that will never fully take shape? Every organization that closes does not disappear in isolation. It takes people, purpose, and possibility with it. Non-profits are often spoken about only in terms of funding. But they are also part of the economy. They employ. They procure. They train. They respond where others cannot. Their absence will be felt, whether immediately, or slowly, over time. I say this with full awareness that the sector is not perfect. There are organizations that must do better. There are questions of accountability and compliance that cannot be ignored. But even with these realities, a contraction of this scale should give all of us pause. For those of us who care about governance, development, and the future of our societies, this moment invites reflection: •What kind of civic space are we building, or constraining? •What balance do we strike between regulation and enablement? •What happens when citizen-led organizing begins to shrink? Before we rush to solutions, we must first sit with the reality: This is not just about organizations. It is about people. It is about possibility. It is about the kind of society we are becoming. #CivicSpace #NonprofitSector

@TonyNatif @KagutaMuseveni @Smith_JeffreyT Ssebo the end justifies the means. The entire world knows about the US activities and still they take their money or financial support. Why accept money from the said killers? They are good in one way and bad in the other? I think we should take the total package

They’ve gone to the USA; that mighty beacon of democracy and human rights to report that big, bad bully @KagutaMuseveni. The USA!!!! Like I’ve repeatedly said, people like @Smith_JeffreyT are a massive joke. His country has recently just killed nearly 200 school girls in what looked like a deliberate bombing. They’re behind a massive slaughter of innocent people in the Middle East, killing civilians at a rate that’s never been seen before. Run a comparison between civilian deaths in the current Middle East war and in the Russia-Ukraine war and you’ll shudder at the sheer gulf in brutality. But both @HEBobiwine and Mr Smith have said nothing. The US, at least this Trump administration, doesn’t really care about human rights. They care about their interests. So in that regard, Mr Smith is simply riding their current Ugandan horse. Won’t be long before they realize it’s not cut out to win the Kentucky derby and they’ll dump it and pick up another. Ruthless operators.

I am not sure about this Strategy. How is this different to the Venezuela Opposition leader who ended up giving Her Nobel Prize to Trump? I see Jeffrey Smith Fingerprints all over these images! This is career ending and WILL never get him to the State house. All the Pan African good will gone!

It is becoming more apparent that unlike Iran, Israel had no succession plan should calamity strike their supreme leader, Netanyahu. If killed or demobilized, they'll risk entering absolute pandemonium – or they already are. The difference btn empires & colonial nation states: pedigree

It is bizarre how @HEBobiwine ‘s cult of empty-brained followers shut their brains and sweetly swallow whatever shit he dishes out. Observing their dogmatic belief which allows neither questioning nor sifting through his gymnastics, I am glad my head resisted his leadership many years ago. So, Bobi Wine posted videos in English and Luganda accompanied with text explaining his departure from Uganda. His cult of empty-brained followers swallowed the message whole without thought. Previously, they shamed all exiles and called us deserters of Uganda’s liberation struggle. But now that Bobi claims to have fled from Uganda, the cult of empty-brained followers is praising exile as an opportunity from which to continue the same struggle from abroad. Double standards, just! Yesterday, this cult of Bobi Wine’s empty-brained followers insulted me because of my post highlighting their hypocrisy. While thinking through their loud brainless praises of Bobi’s claims of fleeing, I began to question the veracity of the very claim. What if Bobi Wine is still in Uganda? What if his pursuers are dangerously closing in on him, and in order to dissuade them from his trail, he lied Ugandans that he fled from the country? What if Bobi Wine is still hiding in Mbarara or Mbale? What if Bobi Wine is, indeed, a liar? See? Ka-blaza cannot be my leader because I refuse to “just shut my brain and open my mouth” like his empty-brained followers do. Bobi Wine can never lead me because I think for myself. Period.

@AsiimweDicta Let’s just agree that Kivumbi like other opposition leaders are victims of the bad politics mixed up with gun violence. If that was not the case we would have peaceful elections

@anderlukson Because police didn't do the shooting. The shooting came from above them, but they likely do not want to place the person who unleashed that violence on the scene. Police had refused to arrest Kivumbi behaviour before. There is no reason they would start on election night

Dont treat Muwanga Kivumbi as a victim when he participated and instigated security, which, as Ugandans we all accept, are trigger happy and have no qualms killing for sport. Hold Kivumbi accountable alongside security for the deaths in Butambala and leave the opponent alone
SSEKADDE SAMUEL 🇺🇬.@ssekaddesamuel2

@eriasa1 @kimsalim99 What if in every area with selfish and self centred opponents the security went on killing 10 people and arresting the victims especially incumbents where would we be as a country?

@anderlukson That roadblock did attempt to lynch a member of the elect Museveni task force who, unlike the security forces from with Butambala, had no qualms unleashing his own violence. In part I do blame the security forces in Butambala.
