@GrapheneOS is currently the one glimmer of hope for reasonably secure, private and usable handheld computing. Support them if you can. Everyone is out to get your data and that is dangerous on too many levels. Don't make it easy for them.

@thefuzzstone @GrapheneOS But if they skimp and it becomes affordable unlike many phones with those features today, that has its merits. Security and privacy should not be paywalled, and even low end cameras are really good. Plastics are lighter and way cheaper and often more repairable.

Please, @GrapheneOS, don't skimp on the display, build quality, camera, etc. Please don't make this product a "typical FOSS" that will be used by 1.5 anonymous, because of the quality of the materials. Tens of thousands of people will buy your product. Just don't skimp.

@eordano GrapheneOS development will continue as will our support for Pixels. We're currently working with a major Android OEM towards support for their future devices. Their current devices don't meet our requirements so improvements are needed and some has already happened for next gen.

@ssamat 2 Problems: 1st: There's no opt out. Hide it behind a scary warning in the developer settings or fastboot, but make it available.

Sideloading is fundamental to Android, and it's not going anywhere. As we said in our blog, our new developer identity requirements are designed to protect users and developers from bad actors, not to limit choice. We want to make sure that if you download an app from a developer, regardless of where you get it, it's actually from them. That's it. goo.gle/3GUXYzT

@ssamat Just like I can create my own secure boot keys and remove Microsoft keys if I so desire. Why is Google supposed to be more trusted than myself? What if I write an App for myself or my friends or my small business? What's the point of Identifying myself to Google?

@ssamat 2nd: I should not have to give Google my ID to install software on my device. I should be able to add a trusted 3rd party anyone can create including myself that can also sign and verify IDs (or not).

In 1995, 76.6% of our energy came from fossil fuels. As of 2023, 76.5% still comes from fossil fuels. The solar being added to our grid mostly just adds to energy consumption, it isn’t replacing fossil fuels. You could save about 75 times as much land by putting up a 1,000-megawatt nuclear power plant and power hundreds of thousands of more homes than a solar farm ever could. Rooftop solar has a big future, but solar’s big issue is that it isn’t energy dense.

AI Pixel art is trending... but can you actually create stories longer than 8 seconds? Totally! And I'm gonna show you how in this thread... all you need is a starting image! Well, and a little bit of JSON prompting 👇

@Manasongg We're collaborating with an OEM to have future devices from them meeting our security and support requirements. This will enable us to support those devices and they'll be able to sell devices with official support for GrapheneOS. It's going well but will take time.

Robert Braxman has published another video spreading blatant misinformation about GrapheneOS in order to promote his highly insecure products and services. In addition to many false technical claims and fabrications about our team, he's falsely claiming the project is dying.

@M_Solidus Or airgap them. Not sure how a projector is better to a TV in terms of privacy. Both can and do contain proprietary software, only airgapping can help regardless of whether it's a TV or projector.

Telegram has full access to all of the content of group chats and regular one-to-one chats due to lack of end-to-end encryption. Their opt-in secret chats use homegrown end-to-end encryption with weaknesses. Deleting the content from the app likely won't remove all copies of it.

The baseline will be several million dollars, which can be spread out across the cost of preordered devices. This is the cost of making a modern, secure device with a secure element and the other requirements we have for one instead of a low-end device with outdated hardware.

Due to AOSP no longer having device support, we need to build it ourselves. We can start from the Android 15 QPR2 device support, remove the outdated code and update the configurations. We have tooling to automate generating device support setups which will need major expansions.

@seangchau Boo! There is no reason to not also release the Pixel device trees and drivers in addition to Cuttlefish. At least admit that this is being done as some form of hostility to custom ROMs. You must have been aware that they were also used by various innovative community projects.

We're seeing some speculation that AOSP is being discontinued. To be clear, AOSP is NOT going away. AOSP was built on the foundation of being an open platform for device implementations, SoC vendors, and instruction set architectures. AOSP needs a reference target that is flexible, configurable, and affordable – independent of any particular hardware, including those from Google. For years, developers have been building Cuttlefish (available on GitHub as the reference device for AOSP) and GSI targets from source. We continue to make those available for testing and development purposes.

@DartsJey No, wokeness means something more specific than opposing injustice. It was one particular phenomenon that began on US college campuses in the late 1980s.

Wokeness will seem such a joke in retrospect that many people won't believe it was ever a serious problem. Even many of the participants will forget. But it really was a big problem.
