When did every PM start using the word "multiplayer" for things that aren't games?

@ShriramKMurthi @neeldhara @rsms @alfredapp The keyboard shortcut is command+shift+/ It focuses the Help menu's Search field. From there, you can arrow through the menu, or enter a search term to quickly jump to menu commands.

@neeldhara @rsms @alfredapp Option+shift+? doesn't seem to do *anything* on my machine (11.6 Big Sur). Sorry, it does, in that it generates the ¿ character… I should check out packal. The thing is, I've just gotten used to not using the menu AT ALL on macOS: the mousing just beat it out of me!

If you are unhappy or disappointed with the state of macOS, what were your favorite features of Mac OS of the past? What would you hope to see in a new OS of tomorrow, niched at computer professionals?

@rsms For making the menu bar black w/o enabling dark mode, maybe check out topnotch.app It’s not an excuse (I feel ya on the complaints), but a possible workaround.

@chrisdrackett Can’t silence push motifs w/o also doing it on my iPhone. All the GUI is fluffy rounded with weird space in unexpected places → low info density. Can’t make the menu bar black anymore (w/o enabling dark mode.) Etc. Mainly I don’t like the “cutesy” GUI.

Is anyone running Linux on the new Apple M1 Pro MacBooks? Just got mine setup and macOS 11—which is AFAIK the only macOS it can run—is so rough.

@_supermarin @orta @elementary That makes sense, and that’s what I was fearing. Menu-items search is an unsung here of macOS. An apropos-mode for all apps.

@andrewa2 @orta @elementary I don’t think Gnome has something like that built into the shell (it’s not the apps supporting CMD+/, it’s macOS enumerating menu items). You can likely combine alfred/spotlight + this + more with rofi

@the_schmance I'm not running Catalina, so I'm not certain that it works, but iTerm2 has this as a feature: apple.stackexchange.com/a/345211 I tested that it works on Mojave.

I used to have this terminal that would pop down from the top of my screen when I pressed ctrl+~. Is there anything like that still that works with Catalina?
