The @smithsonian claims to be independent from the government in its arguments for why it can operate outside the laws Congress passes or not comply with oversight from the White House.    However, they were closed during the government shutdown & are now reopening. I got an unexpected call from a prominent elected Democrat today and they finally admitted it: “It’s my side. Calling everyone Nazis and fascists, pushing people to grab guns. It has to stop.” They said they want to meet in DC to figure out how we can work together, across party lines, to lower the temperature and stop this crisis. We need more of this. When politics feels like moral war, when violence feels like the only option, that’s a failed state. Civil war territory. Our side hasn’t changed. We love our fellow Americans. When Joe Biden’s terminal cancer was announced, nobody celebrated. We prayed. Look at the other side: ICE agents shot, churches burned, radicals celebrating murder online. Evil. You can’t make peace with people who want to kill you. But you can work with Americans who still love this country, and want to save it.

I understand and applaud President Trump’s desire to address this issue and to support HHS. HHS should release the new data that it has to support this claim. The preponderance of evidence shows that this is not the case. The concern is that women will be left with no options to manage pain in pregnancy.
