Know a principal at a local high school, where the average student learns 2.6x faster than a standard public school with only two hours per day of mandatory learning. No teachers. No tutors. No secrets. The big difference is how seriously they listen to data & learning science.

On the Internet, the world's best teachers will earn millions of dollars per year because they can teach a football stadium's worth of students at once, and with economies of scale, they can hire talented teams and invest in Hollywood-level production values.

@robkhenderson Kinda reminds me of the proverb “the nail that sticks out get hammered”, experiencing that myself here where many would like to seem that they’re the same not better not worse, and some in the end do believe in that mantra and not just improve altogether

Indonesia & China agreed to a budget overrun of 18 trillion rupiah (US$1.2b) for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail. The project was originally expected to cost ~66.76 trillion rupiah when it began in 2015, but has since ballooned to 113 trillion rupiah. channelnewsasia.com/asia/indonesia…

A CEO's calendar is very telling. Ideally, there is sufficient white space to be a "firefighter" for the team. Alternatively, they can use the time to problem solve for the company at the 2-3 year time horizon. If you're a CEO and you don't have time for those things:

After I told this to my manager, I think something within him shifted and gave him hope, hope that the future is brighter than the past even with short term set backs

My coach always tells me that the ultimate goal is the journey, and as long as we’re on the journey we’re always winning. Once we’ve stopped we have ultimately lost

It’s only in death that we have already failed. One of my managers got emotional and started saying he’s ashamed that he has failed in the last year, he tried so hard but in the end he doesn’t know what else he could do, I think it’s an overreaction

It is not easy to find partners like this, be it in business, personal or even love, but when you do, don’t let them go

Was it their fault? Not exactly, but they manned up and took responsibility. Always find partners that are capable of doing that. And continue working with them for long periods, when you’re in a moment of need, they will be there

Today was a lesson in crisis management with 50% of the visas not approved and delaying our trip thus incurring extraordinary expenses. Our travel partner stepped up and gave an extraordinary solution which is extremely rare in our country, why?

Today 2 critical people in my team were not communicating well, one cried while the other just shrugged the shoulder. I had to mediate and bore their hearts to each other. It was worth it when I left I saw them talking happily while their eyes were tearing

Witnessing them enter the crucible of openness and change is a exhilarating moment for me…

Being open and vulnerable is a really hard thing to do. In my team I’ve witnessed grown men cry while talking about their past, maybe it’s a mix of digging deep into raw forgotten wounds, or knowing it’s acceptable to talk about them…

Bali is such a world class destination, beautiful people and culture, would love to see all these improvements and not see it becoming less and less magical.

Leaving Bali, my thoughts: with 60% of GDP depending on tourism and focused on Kuta/Legian/Seminyak/Canggu/Ubud , there is so much untapped potential. Yes there are developments but I don’t see a grand master plan for the next 10-20 years.
