@AngusMoorat Angus, “cope” is one thing but the question to ask is ‘has it improved local services and democracy across the massive county that is North Yorkshire?’ Two years in and the jury is still out on that.

If North Yorkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, County Durham and Somerset can each cope as one unitary council, could Surrey function as one council too? Imagine three social services departments, three transport departments, three education departments etc.
