Really pleased to see this Swift flock (c30) over Rayne, Essex and approaching numbers present when their main breeding site in village was demolished years ago. Now almost double-figure of pairs breeding from a low of 1 or 2 just 5 years ago.

The highlight of my exciting visit to Beaconsfield Services off the M40 was misidentifying this lovely mass of Mistletoe for a rather underused large Rookery. Never mind eh?

The large tortoiseshell, reckoned extinct for over half a century, but now recolonized. I look forward to serious mischief on elms and other trees as reported by Eleanor Ormerod, 1898, Handbook of insects injurious to orchard and bush fruits.

US secretary of state Marco Rubio has re-re-stated US war aims. But he’s left out everything we thought President Trump wanted: no opening the Strait of Hormuz, no stopping nuclear enrichment, and certainly no regime change. So what’s the war been for?

@phil_d13 What is a “pukka pie”? I’m always interested to see what happens to words from other languages when they make their way into English.

Great Friday afternoon at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre at RAF Coningsby. Guided tour was excellent, unfortunately the Lancaster was away being serviced nearer to home at Duxford. Video of Douglas Dakota powering up

Some views of the Great Grey Shrike at Fillingham in Lincolnshire yesterday. Some of the hovering forays lasted for well over a minute. Grey Partridge also heard in the area

Searching the North Yorkshire Moors for Red Grouse eventually produced this close individual. Also bubbling Curlew, nervous Lapwing, Stonechat, Woodcock with Marsh Tit, numerous Siskin and Nuthatch in the woods
