@akoseff Also not true that no one in San Diego asked. We asked last week, again today. No response.
English

For what it's worth, I got a nonresponse from Issa's spokesman, who replied that "no one in San Diego called me about it" and then ignored a direct question about whether Issa still plans to run

Holy moly! @repdarrellissa retirement watch update. #Prop50 is causing another shakeup! Expectation is that Issa drops which means the filing extends a week and Dem who makes it to Nov won’t be running against an incumbent who is also the richest member of the House.
English

Latest update from San Diego Registrar: @jim_desmond has pulled papers to run for #CA48 and is no longer in candidate list for #CA49.
With filing deadline approaching tonight, all eyes on whether @DarrellIssa will file to run for reelection in the redrawn 48th district.

Padres' labor contingent on board with the rest of the players on the eve of collective bargaining negotiations: salary cap is a non-starter. Here it is. My first column for @TimesofSanDiego. @MLB @MLBPA @Padres @Grampskie bit.ly/47f89Je

@Burlydee @byjoelanderson “Season on the Brink,” among the best sports books ever written, was a result of “access journalism.” The idea that stories resulting from unparalleled access are bad comes from defining those stories by their worst examples.
English

@byjoelanderson I don’t think what he’s talking about is a valuable form of journalism. It’s barely journalism.
English

Was talking about this with friends and this moment in journalism is very frustrating, but I also understand why the likes of LeBron and Beyonce will never trust an independent journalist with their story again. The trade off, as said here, is often their stories are boring.

Big research effort from @TernerHousing showing that California's byzantine process for financing low-income housing is a major outlier nationally that delays new affordable developments and makes them more expensive to build ternercenter.berkeley.edu/blog/the-cost-…

@conorsen @ModeledBehavior Donuts are not good so it’s a tough assignment
English

@ModeledBehavior How can we get a national donut chain that actually makes good donuts? Can technology do it?
English

@texticons @sdcta Correct. So it’s a budget wash, but benefits existing employees, who are likely to be given deference over hypothetical future employees.
English

@andy_keatts @sdcta And excessive OT can offset any expected savings from vacant positions.
English

The burden to close the current year #SanDiego budget deficit is not being evenly spread accross city Departments, with public safety departments reporting the most vacancies (275 at the SDPD and 89 at Fire Rescue).
In contrast, the Mayor's Office and the Department of Performance and Analytics only have three vacancies.

@texticons @sdcta Unfilled positions lead to overtime. Existing officers benefit.
English

@andy_keatts @sdcta Interesting question. I've never read of a police or fire chief who felt their respective department was overstaffed. Do you have an insight that's not reflected in the IBA report?

A few times over the last two years people asked me why @CirculateSD was not more involved with this taskforce.
My answer was that it was clear from the get-go that this would be the outcome (nearly nothing).

@AndrewYsursa @Saul_Bookman They wanted to open the stadium on national TV and that was the only time slot that allowed it. “Just always play at night” sounds good in theory but it turns out it’s not that simple.
