City

@richardosman Doesn't England have a land border with France the length of the width of the Channel Tunnel?

England is the only country to ever win the men's World Cup that doesn't share a land border with another country that has won a men's World Cup. Norway and Morocco are the only teams left which could join that list this year.

@MateoOstorero @lizchar And although the refs were carrying them, none were actually issued in 1970. First red card at the World Cup was Carlos Caszely of Chile vs West Germany in 1974.

@TonyTannousTRBA Assuming you’re ok though with Lucas Neil and Tony Vidmar taking the 2nd and 3rd penalty in 05. Craig Moore took team penalties at times as CB. Sometimes the defender is more measured than starry eyed strikers.

I just saw Ale Circati was scheduled to be the 5th to step up. That's 3 cd's, any word on why Hrustic & Toure weren't among the 5? #Socceroos #AUSEGY #FIFAWorldCup

Still on the Paraguay game. Holland v Portugal 20 years ago was much, much worse - real violence and genuine thuggery. Don't recall all this fuss

@Gatty54 We're such a mixture as a footballing culture that maybe that's the point. British, Italian, Balkan influences as well as global trends and other sports Australians play.

How long have we been talking about having our own football identity and way of playing? We tried English influence, Dutch influence. Yet we’ve done nothing about identifying our own philosophy. Talk is cheap!

"In Australia we've lacked a DNA of football and the Australian way of playing and that's one thing that we need to embark on." Football Australia's response to Mark Milligan's passionate analysis on SBS after the Socceroos' World Cup exit 👇 Details: tinyurl.com/339dr5fd

We were never going deep this WC but I have more hope the next 2 World Cups. Bos, Toure, Irankunda, Italiano, Okon-Engstler, Volpato, Beach, Herrington and Circati all in their prime in next 8 years (don’t give up on Kuol too). Has the future ever been brighter? #socceroos

@Gatty54 Beach, Irankunda and Herrington will have learned loads. Volpato actually wants to play for us now. I don't want to blame individuals. We should have pushed harder to win it in normal time, a bit too risk averse.

The initial disappointment and anger with the Socceroos bowing out of the World Cup should give way to the realisation we have a core group of exciting young players who can take us well into the future. Be proud Australia.

@tealfooty @Socceroos Should've pushed harder for a winner in normal time when we were in control. Too risk averse. We've beaten better teams than that lot. Always next... time.

Disappointing. Great effort by @Socceroos but under the pressure of the shoot-out we couldn't get it done. Proud of their efforts but it wasn't to be. #WorldCup #Socceroos

@Gatty54 Set pieces have been pretty disappointing truth be told. And that's something we can control. Not totally out of this but got to watch the details.

One lapse has cost us, otherwise hasn’t been too bad from Socceroos. AND don’t despair guys. Harry Souttar is due to score a goal as long as we can deliver with the set pieces! 🤞

Everyone has their own taste but until you’ve had a crack at designing the flag you can’t comment. Designing an Aussie flag is somehow cursed and not at all easy. Everyone chip in and eventually one of the million monkeys will nail it
𝑨𝑼𝑺𝑵𝑰𝑨𝑵@AUSNIAN

Terrible flag battle?? Who can find the worst contender? These are all dead serious proposals—all heavily promoted as serious contenders to replace our flag. Some with their own websites, many with a legion of backers.
