Waylet, Iberdrola, Zunder, Repsol, Endesa, BP…

@zackslab Try it under Linux, I do all embedded development under Linux for that same reason, the difference with Windows is abysmal for the same computer, it is incredibly inefficient

@blind_via Toaster ovens by themselves have terrible temperature regulation, a cheap pid with a solid state relay works beautifully and avoids any risk of over temperature. You can have it working for about 50€ and a couple hours. Built quite a few prototypes with that setup.
English

"I can't install those parts by hand, that'll never work"
PCB Reflow oven hack, just buy a toaster oven from the thrift store. Apply paste by hand or with a stencil, and reflow your boards yourself like a pro.
I've even heard of MCUs, being used to thermal profile ramp with these toaster ovens. A project by itself. Or just toss it in there without thermal ramp, it'll probably be fine if it's not a big board.

@AlperenAkkuncu Claude opus handles kicad files really well, I have successfully thrown a new PCB revision at it with a different mcu and had it remap the pinout almost perfectly first time

I tried using Gemini Pro to review some of our schematics.
I started with something really simple: I gave it a basic STM32 schematic and asked it to check the connections and pinouts. Initially, it raised a lot of false flags by making up a totally incorrect pinout.
I then uploaded the datasheet and had it review the schematic again. This time, it understood the pinout and actually apologized (😆) for the earlier mistakes, though it still threw a few false flags it couldn't quite resolve.
Ultimately, I think it's a great tool for catching obvious errors—like connecting power to ground—especially when you give it context like the datasheets.

@SocraticScribe It is very satisfying to see the reflow soldering process, but there is a lot of margin for improvement in that assembly, paste spreading pressure was too low and that resulted in a big excess of paste, with a finer pitch IC the would have been lots of shorts
English

If you have only been to tourist areas it's not difficult to come to that conclusion, that's a very narrow sighted view of our country. Go to Madrid or the Basque country and visit some industrial areas, that's another world, in Valencia we are making the locomotives the UK can't make anymore.

@elonmusk The biggest friction I found was with the leasing company, here Tesla works with CA auto bank but neither them or Tesla managers knew the process details, communication was very slow and made a few mistakes. If I knew it I would have worked with my usual bank.

@Jonteinspain @VeryDemure If we manage to get rid of our current communist corrupt government Spain could be a really great country, but sadly we are facing the same fate as the UK if nothing changes
English

Years ago, I returned in 2013. It was a mistake. I would recommend Spain to anyone. Very safe, great place for children to grow up, lovely country, can be hot in the summer and more importantly, a unit of electricity cost 15cents or about 12p. Food is far cheaper, roads are better, rates are a fraction of the UK and the Spanish are damned nice people.
English

My house was valued at 890K but I have accepted an offer of 820k in order that I can get out of this country. I can't and I won't live in a country where censorship is rife, police watch everything , criticism of foreign rapists is illegal. I've had enough. Best £70,000 I have ever lostl Be happy people.
If you read through X you'll see a massive amount of self censorship. People are frightened so they say nothing. Hard to believe they were once Britons.
If Starmer scares the shit out of you, pray to God that Russia doesn't turn up.

Repaired this same issue myself in my mother's 2009 Ford Kuga. In our case we had a DTC on the accelerator pedal sensor, as it goes through the cluster for cruise control.
The issue is that by these years all the industry was forced to switch to lead free solder and the alloys used in some cases were not very good, vibration makes it even worse but is not the root cause.
English

“My ICE Never had a problem” – the legendary phrase that deserves its own statue one day, brought to you by the one and only: fossil cars.
Here’s a free EVCAcademy lesson for the crowd – because let’s be real, nothing keeps the industry alive like broken diesel cars. A never-ending buffet of “never had an issue.”
You’ll often see comments like:
“My diesel’s got 400,000 km and never had a problem,”
as if the thing doesn’t even have a dual-mass flywheel, turbo, MAP/MAF sensors, timing belt, or 50 other small-but-expensive and very common failures they’ve all just mentally blocked out.
(Like that lovely metal shaving surprise in the diesel injection system…)
The usual scenario:
Your 8,000€ diagnostic tool says it’s the MAP sensor. You swap it. Still broken. Then you change another 2,000€ worth of parts – still not fixed.
Then begins the grand tour — the car “visits a few mechanics until it finds the right one,” who, seeing the pile of parts already replaced, continues digging and accidentally stumbles upon the real cause.
And this goes on, round and round, from garage to garage.
With fossil cars, even with all the tools in the world, you’re still guessing like Nostradamus to figure out what’s actually wrong.
And that’s precisely why we got fed up with fossils. Something EVs don’t suffer from. Troubleshooting on EVs is light years easier.
Meanwhile in fossil land:
You’ve got oil leaks, vapor leaks, thermal stress, crumbling wiring insulation, broken crimp pins (hello BMW F-series), and vibration damage that slowly eats away at the car’s soul over time and mileage.
The image below shows a U1900 CANBUS fault, along with a bunch of random ghost errors — the kind of thing garages have been blindly replacing parts for over 14 years.
But the real cause? Cracked solder joints on the instrument cluster connector (tachometer) due to engine vibration from that prehistoric combustion lump under the hood.
Why? Because the tachometer sits right on the CANBUS backbone.
And yes, this isn’t new — we’ve been seeing this failure for over 15 years across all brands, old and new.
Affected:
Around 4 million Ford vehicles from 2008 to today, including Focus, Mondeo, and Fiesta.
But hey, owners still call it “never had a problem” or “just fuel and drive.”
The failure happens every 4–6 years, and the “official fix” is to replace the whole cluster — for 500€.
The real fix?
Open it up, reflow the solder carefully, and don’t damage the two fragile flat cables or gauge motor spindles that love to pop out if you even look at them wrong.
Estimated economic damage caused by these Ford fossil vibrations:
~2 billion euros.
