A classmate from my MBA days, a Marwari from Jaipur and a garment manufacturer based in Tiruppur, has launched a retail chain across roughly 12 small towns in Bihar - Lakhisarai, Siwan, Barh & Sitamarhi, etc. Focussing on selling low budget (mostly in the range of 99 - 199) clothing. When I asked why he chose those specific locations, he explained that people in rural (or small town) Bihar have a sharp eye for "value for money." They want to make sure every penny is well spent. This sharp business acumen can only be expected from Marwaris, Jains & Punjabis. Up until the 1990s, Bihar had a good population from these groups. The state’s commerce & trade began to decline when they started to leave in large numbers during that period of misgovernance. Bring them back.

@prakdadlani Experience has taught me that working on thin margins is disastrous. Orders flood in when u sell at low margins and moment you seek to realise better margin, they evaporate. Best wishes anyway.

Factory is busy but we are not making any money. Raw material prices have eaten up all the profits. Right now, it feels like we’re just working for nothing. If this continues, we’ll start paying out of pocket. On one side, it’s good to see the factory full and running. On the other, we know this is just servicing work - it’s not contributing to real growth. Hopefully things streamline in the next few months.

#Digitisation of #LandRecords has been an unmitigated disaster for all except: IT firms, revenue officials, lawyers, politicians and land mafia. Insidious, quiet, but massive land grabbing has become the norm. I have been associated with land administration for decades and I am horrified by the results, whereas the governments seem thrilled with the monster they created! I request all to amplify this national calamity created by insane technology application driven by greed and absolute ignorance of land administration. I am appealing to @PMOIndia and all #ChiefMinisters to stall the digitisation process and constitute a committee of experts - not bureaucrats/ IT professionals - for establishing impeccable guardrails for comprehensive overhaul of land administration systems and institutions before embarking on digitisation. In the interim, restore pre-digital manual land records, duly updated. If I, former chief secretary, cannot get handle over my own family land records, I dread to imagine the plight of illiterate/ semi-literate landowner. i'm in Dubai since last 2 days and the market does not look very good. The good thing is there are more players from Bharat. But the quality of products? Going down every quarter. What we are selling at $15, the others are selling at $12 - with reduced quality. > bad finishing > substandard materials > poor designs It's disheartening.
