What do you call these? Have you ever eaten them?

@Headteacherchat Someone has to be in first, do you have other members of staff who are in on their own (eg would a caretaker on their own cause concern too?). As for setting a precedent - 6am is quite a niche time to be working, not sure you will get a stampede to join them.

Anon post: A senior staff member prefers working 6a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but this leaves them alone on-site until 7:30 a.m., raising safety concerns. While I understand this suits them, it might not be safe or set a good precedent. Any suggestions?

@ArthBychan There was a time when I could have used crying rooms at regular intervals. A place to cry ideally without too many questions. Thank you for offering one to someone in need.

@Englishomestead I completely agree. Had the same a while ago: very irritated I spent lots of money to be with my family and coudln't hear them or talk to them because of the barking.

@FeckinLife Well done and go for it! I go away on my own nearly every year, love it, I do feel self conscious in the pub on my own but brave it anyway. Very much worth it. If I see you I promise not to say anything!

I’m on a solo mini holiday in Kerry. I’m oscillating between feeling like a brave adventurous modern woman and a total billy-no-mates loser. I’m enjoying it though and my first hotel (staying elsewhere tomorrow night) is gorgeous. Kells Bay Hotel & Gardens.

@Matt_Mark2 We fell for the 'just a light breeze tonight' line...camping in a leaky tent with tarpaulins which we then had to wrestle with at 3 in the morning in howling gales. Grr!

@abbyaug Surely children attend school because it’s the law rather than a social contract? Education is getting weirder and weirder and more and more combative and power hungry.

@Sue_Cowley The reasons can be divided into general areas, but the difficulty is, each family is unique so each solution unique. I work at a v small school and some main reasons are: poverty, illness (children and/or parents), mental health (of children and/or parents).

Has anyone done any research into *why* families are deciding not to attend school? It seems to me like we need to think about causes before we can think about solutions. Punitive measures are clearly not working to reverse the trend.

@Matt_Mark2 In my experience, more frequently than algebra, about the same as scree (though I live in a fairly scree-free place).

@Engleeshteacher @thosethatcan There's a big gap between being eligible for free school meals and being comfortable enough to support attending uni open days - esp ones far away.

Uni open days and ££ - though the events are free of charge, travel expenses are having a significant impact on monthly family budget. We can take it, but wondering support is available for families who struggle to meet these expenses?

@annao_tree I've often thought that about the house we lived in in the Midlands. Mole was such a hunter that there were many different types of blood: frog, mouse, rat, various types of bird. Not to mention the dead guinea pig he & his sister exhumed one night and brought home.

Crime dramas: Y'know when they sling a kidnap victim or a body into a car boot, how come they never have to move a pushchair, a dog bed, a garden spade, a bag of allotment-gardening tools and random empty shopping bags first? And how come the cars are always so clean?
