This @UlsterUni @OKeenan research is sobering reading, but at least we now have evidence of how living in defective concrete homes is impacting on mental health. This should be used as a catalyst to provide support & streamline the grant scheme to get people out of these houses

I.S. 465, the standard that underpins the defective concrete blocks scheme in Ireland is long discredited yet engineers acting on behalf of the State insist that homeowners must remediate their homes based on it. We are waiting and waiting for it to be amended and updated 👇🏻

When I bought my new Donegal home I never could have imaged having to demolish it 17 yrs later. I could never have imaged all the new neighbours having to do the same (49 of them). I have hardly a friend whose home isn’t destroyed by defective blocks, my community is in ruins

An important update from @NSAI_Standards on the revisions to IS465. It's good that our research on pyrrhotite and Internal sulfate attack is now being recognized as the damage mechanism in Irish defective concrete & this is being incorporated into the revised testing protocols.
