Hey wildlife twitter! I'm redesigning a 400-level (3rd and 4th yr student) principles of wildlife management course. What do YOU think are THE principles of wildlife management? I am trying to bring in more than simply the North American model. Looking forward to hearing!

@grizzlygirl87 @_SomeBiologist For a survival analysis I did where bird was tagged and died within the same time interval (I did weeks, not days), I did add on a week because otherwise it will not run. Just the way the underlying stats work I think? Anyways my collaborators/mentors said that’s the way 🤷‍♀️

@_SomeBiologist The problem is, some of them would still be the same. Come in on day 177, leave on day 177. I'm thinking of adding like a 0.5 or something just so it differentiates.

Anyone familiar with survival/time-to-event analyses? My problem currently in R is that (using package 'survival') my stop time has to be greater than my start time, or the analysis creates NA values. But I'm using dates - and some dates have the same start/stop. Work around?

@evornithology ArcGIS is not sexy as others have said. QGIS, Google earth engine, or just pure code all are. But spatial staff I know at state agencies still use a lot of Arc internally.

Spatial folks: is expertise in ArcGIS still cool/important? Or have spatial analyses moved beyond/outside ArcGIS per se, such that someone could be a great spatial researcher and not be an ArcGIS expert?

@abigailthiemkey @atyourcervid I’ve got a Honda Insight - 2010 was the last year they made them because it was outcompeted by Prius. It of course isn’t the same as a 4WD truck or AWD sedan but imo is equivalent to other non hybrid sedans I’ve driven in snow and superior in other aspects

@SwflTurtle In my experience, drift happens as the transmitters age. Coming from a person on the other end dealing with collected data…you can never take too many notes! I’ve had to throw out data cause folks didn’t properly record drifting frequencies.
