Gladu on January 11, 2026, “Really, the whole point of being an MP is to represent your constituents. So if they’re voting you in under one platform –for you to switch for whatever reasons, just seems to me to not be representing what you’re supposed to be there to represent. “We elected you under this banner, and if you don’t want to be under that banner, then we deserve a chance to have a redo.”

The funeral of Father Pierre El-Rahi, Maronite parish priest of a Christian village, is celebrated today in #Lebanon, as these villages once again experience the tragedy of war. I am close to all the Lebanese people in this time of grave trial. Fr. Pierre was a true shepherd. As soon as he heard that parishioners had been wounded in a bombing, he rushed to help without hesitation. May the Lord grant that the blood he shed become a seed of peace for beloved Lebanon. #PrayTogether

A state that negotiates with terrorists, governs a diverse society through centralization, and normalizes corruption cannot expect credibility abroad. The real question isn't why the world doesn't take #Lebanon seriously, it's why Lebanon doesn't take itself seriously

These secondary explosions are proof that Hezbollah hasn't respected their part of the bargain by removing artillery from south of the Litani as the ceasefire required them to do. The Lebanese government must act immediately and be the sole entity in possession of such arms.

And with this rocket, Hezbollah effectively killed the cease fire Lebanon had with Israel and by doing so now puts the poor people of the south, as well as the country's critical infrastructure, at risk of being attacked. I am from Tyr, 15 minutes away from the southern border

One of the architects at the top of the pyramid of evil people from Iran that designed Lebanon's descent to hell. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who I, funny enough, share a birthday with was unalived. Good riddance.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants strongly condemns the Iranian attacks against the sovereignty and security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Lebanon affirms its full solidarity with these fellow Arab States and firmly rejects any violation of their sovereignty, any threat to their security, or any action undermining their stability.

This👇is great, but before getting too excited, recall that this is essentially what the Harper government sought to do for Canada through the Canada-Europe Trade Agreement, the Trans Pacific Partnership, plus a bunch of bilateral FTAs. The idea was to make Canada a global hub for free trade to reduce our dependance on the US market. Under the Harper government, Canada went from having largely tariff free access to 6 countries, to over 45 countries. But a decade after Harper's massive FTA expansion, Canada was even *more* dependant on the US export market. Why? because most of what the world wants and needs from Canada is commodities. Oil, gas, minerals, potash, grains, oilseeds, livestock, lumber, etc.. Stuff that is bulky, and requires massive infrastructure to move: pipelines, LNG liquefaction plants, expanded rail, bigger ports, etc.. Free trade access to foreign markets is great, but it only matters for Canada IF WE CAN ACTUALLY SHIP THOSE COMMODITIES quickly and efficiently. So yes, godspeed to the Carney government if it can help cement alternative global zones for freer trade. But it won't matter materially to Canada unless and until we have radical deregulation to build big things again, like pipelines and ports, at the speed of business. On that front, lot's of great talk from Ottawa. Now we desperately need bold, concrete action!

EXCLUSIVE: The EU and a 12-nation Indo-Pacific bloc are opening talks to explore forming one of the largest global economic alliances, multiple people with knowledge of the talks told POLITICO. Canada's Mark Carney is spearheading the discussions. 🔗 politico.eu/article/eu-and…

A Liberal's interpretation of Harper's speech. And a poor one twisted to fit Carney's Trump-as-Canada's-problem narrative. Granted, Harper compared this moment to 1866: America abandoning reciprocity/free trade, and elements of the US government demanding annexation of Canada. Threats that led to Confederation and a nation-building response. However, inconvenient for the Liberal narrative and for full context of his Trump comments, Harper went on to say: "Our conversation must be mature enough to recognize that most of our problems are not because of Donald Trump, but the bad decisions of our own government." Harper also said, as a unity response, we don't need a list of major projects, we need to bring back the 2012 reforms to get major projects approved quickly. I could go on but it would hurt Tyler's partisan-serving spin. Bottom line: it was vintage Harper. The adult in the room, with a bang-on understanding of geopolitical challenges, with a detailed plan on how to meet the moment and win. I never had such reassurance that Trudeau understood the moment let alone had a plan. And I haven't yet felt such a moment with Carney. He should follow Harper's advice.

I had the chance last night to attend the gala dinner honouring the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper on the 20th anniversary of his first election as PM. I volunteered and campaigned hard against his governments so I am not here to litigate the past. But his speech last night was a graceful, forceful and sober assessment that all leaders in Canada should heed. One that I found myself agreeing with at a number of points (not all). I was particularly struck by his call out to those in Corporate Canada who dumbly, naively and unhelpfully think the world can go back to the way it was pre-Trump. Companies and leaders who don’t care to, as Prime Minister Carney would say, live in the truth and be true to their values as Canadians. We can disagree sometimes about the best ways to follow in defending our country and our way of life in this perilous time. But we must act first and foremost with the preservation of Canada in our minds. As PM Harper said last night - and which every living former PM would echo - there is no price too great to defend Canada from Donald Trump and annexation. This is a time to be fearless and relentless in working together as Canadians to live our values and make our country strong. Let us put our partisanship aside sometimes and do that. #cdnpoli
