the fact that i bookmarked this for when it came true and they didn’t even get second lmfao.

2nd overall pick to Vancouver

@taj1944 This sets up even more disappointment next year when we again fall to 3rd
English

@sekeresandprice @YellowDogBeer The fact that anyone is voting no shows how little confidence there is in management to do the easiest possible thing for a rebuilding team, get any value at all for UFAs. This coming from someone who voted no, my money is on them failing to move at least one of the three
English

Will the #Canucks trade all their unrestricted free agents (Teddy Blueger, Evander Kane, David Kampf)?

@VCanucksNews @nhlupdate Not that it is as easy to accrue with no more AHL paper transactions. But the advantage a team like the Canucks would have with a closer AHL affiliate may not be as much if the accruals only could potentially apply in the regular season (in a worst case)
English

@anthonyparra24 @nhlupdate That’s very curious and I’m not sure if that is actually going to be how it works when this is actually implemented.
English

@VCanucksNews @nhlupdate Perhaps this articulates my question better. From a puckpedia article

English

@anthonyparra24 @nhlupdate This is supposed to deter teams from stashing players on LTIR and then activating them in the playoffs.
If you accrue cap space and are able to add a player at the deadline, you’ll be fine for the playoffs.
English

@VCanucksNews @nhlupdate So if you accrued space that allowed you to buy at the deadline a larger cap hit player, once the playoffs start you may no longer be compliant even if you were game 84?
English

@anthonyparra24 @nhlupdate Cap accrual doesn't affect the upper limit. What would affect the upper limit for teams is dead cap (buyouts/recapture/retention).
Cap accrual is like interest on money in a bank account.

@ThomasDrance @TheAthleticNHL Anyone else having an app issue where the page just loads a blank?

Vancouver #Canucks off-season recap mailbag, part 1: Strategic paths to contender status tiers via @TheAthleticNHL: nytimes.com/athletic/64769…
English

@ThomasDrance I don’t get how you could accrue cap space all year to use at the deadline only to not be allowed to use that game 1 of the playoffs. Same roster game 82(84) could no longer be compliant
English

Fine print here is going to be key.
League is attempting to fix a largely functional system, and the risk of 'the law of unintended consequences' is sky high.
For example: Will dead money (buyouts and retained salary transactions) count against a playoff salary cap?
Frank Seravalli@frank_seravalli
New #NHL LTIR Playoff rule: > Teams will only receive LTIR amount equal to prior season's Average League Salary (e.g. this year was something like ~$3.8m), unless player is definitely out for entirety of playoffs. > Playoff salary cap will consist of 20 players in lineup. Rosters can be shuffled game-to-game.
English

@AndyCole1984 @samanthacp_ I wonder if this means the Canucks have decided to trade Petey. They can’t possibly think that he would be a good add to the room with Petey
English

@SatiarShah Lines too. The entire arena was all talking about it. Not sure I’ve seen a worse officiated pro game. Both ways too!
English

@RobFai @dncedaddydenero +1 for kids items. We got my son a baby onesies but there is nothing for toddlers so it’s been years since we could get anything he would fit into. Doesn’t need a huge selection, just T-Shirt and standard hat options
English

@TheStanchion Remember when the biggest concern was that Desharnais wasn’t working out on the third pair? Ah the good old days
English

@TheStanchion To be fair, they didn’t not execute. Or try. Or care. No fight, no pushback. The indifference is death. Time to move on from the core
English

@SadClubCommish People saying you can’t trade Miller for pennies on the dollar. At this point you have to no? Anything to wake them up. The team does not care anymore.
English

important question for @2_much_man purposes: how much is a plate a nachos at an Oilers home game?
English

@MtlfanSakic @VCanucksNews @SatiarShah @roy17391 For the Canucks the value is not paying the rest of his $1M salary or cap hit or the contract slot. All of which are more useful in savings vs a player they don’t trust to play
English

@SatiarShah @roy17391 Future considerations cannot be a player, a pick or a prospect.
Future consideration worth less than a 7th round pick. It basically means that the player has no value.
English

@frank_seravalli @DailyFaceoff Need a @ThomasDrance article about how the Canucks use this for a Hughes extension. And then despite it being allowed in the CBA, what the eventual cap punishment will be only for them.
English

Sources: #Canes and Seth Jarvis have agreed to terms on an eight-year, $63.2 million contract.
It's a fascinating deal - one that has the chance to be a precedent setter league-wide with a lower cap hit because of deferred money.
