@LumiiVRC The real problem is that people buy these stuff, not caring about optimization. Most people buy avatars based on the look and feel only. So, as a creator what is more important: sales or optimization?
If buyers start caring more about optimization, creators will optimize it.

Avatars and attitudes like this are -exactly- the reason this feature is going to be spectacular.
For an avatar with no clothes, the poly count is insane - and *is* a good metric when you consider that in a 40-80 person instance full of "shouldn't be very poor" avatars - you'll end up rendering millions if not tens of millions of polygons.
It's not "modern", it's unoptimized - something pretty par for the course from Booth. I've seen models with great detail coming in at 5-10k polygons.

"Alienating" people "inexperienced with optimization" is such a nothingburger. It's incentive, not alienation.
You want people to show your avatar? Learn. Research. Ask questions.
Too hard? Use a public model or commission someone.
It's greedy to ask other people to suffer for your own laziness.

This is a modern Booth avatar. Adding the performance gating system before re-evaluating the performance ranks risks alienating new players or those inexperienced with optimization. Polycount as a standalone metric is a poor performance indicator, this shouldn't be very-poor.

@JDT_1987 Mostly to get rid of the extra loops and N-gons. This is a very specific project with limited poly-count so i want a high quality face without making it too high poly so have to use every polygon as best possible.

@antro3dcg Just wondering what was the point of the tris at the forehead and everywhere else? I know it's to get rid of N-Gons, but is there more to it? Like better deformation? Love the way it turned out, just wondering as a learning 3D Modeler.

@kariha_moon5 Great write up, i started as vroid artist but it was always challenging meeting client expectations because of so many things that weren't possible. I ultimately started learning Blender & making models from scratch.
Though Vroid's recent updates have improved it a lot.

To help potential clients manage their expectations when commissioning a VRoid model, I wrote an article that lists out very transparently the limitations of a 3D model made in VRoid Studio.
Many clients do not fully understand the difference between a VRoid and full scratch model before commissioning a VRoid model and it can cause unpleasant misunderstandings between the client and artist when expectations are not met.
I know it is a well-known “joke” in the VTubing community that VTubers do not read, but I trust that those who care will and I truly hope this article helps them understand what they will be paying for!
It is also clearly linked in my VRoid comms service so I’ll assume anyone who commissions me from next opening onwards will have a good idea of what to expect with a VRoid model 🙏
(and honestly this was not only time consuming, but also super vulnerable to write since I used my own works as examples and it’s almost like showing my weaknesses publicly so I hope it is appreciated 🥺🥲)
