@plez24 @EthanMosz My daughter switched to pickleball and is much happier. International players have ruined college tennis for Americans. I would not advise spending all the money for private lessons. The return is not there.

@EthanMosz Have 2 kids in juniors & lots of talk of what's the point they'll give spots to experienced, older internationals. Think a respectable #, say 50-75 % Americans rostered, would be good for the juniors knowing they have a shot. Maybe better is limit older freshmen?

Sigh. The sad part is Pat probably didn’t even watch a single match, he just looked at the rosters afterwards so he could count Americans.

Rumblings have predictably started about progress on the A’s ballpark slowing as available funding is depleted. The $1 billion funding shortfall remains unaddressed. No amount of breathless cheerleading by local journalists can alter that simple reality.

I think this is just another reason for the kids to skip over to Pickleball. My daughter trained hard and became the state tennis champion and would have been lucky to get a D1 scholarship to a top school. There is so much growth and fun in Pickleball. With tennis the junior tourneys were a grind. From what I hear the college teams that are 75% foreigners aren't that fun either. My advice to junior tennis players and parents is to stop paying for private lessons and travel. Train hard in pickleball. It is way more fun.

The elite American players usually find their way. The bigger issue is the overall numbers — and the shrinking opportunities for non-elite American players who used to see college tennis as a real pathway. That pathway matters. It mattered to me. It’s more important than ever for college tennis to get on TV. Other spring sports like women’s water polo, beach volleyball, and men’s volleyball all have their championships aired live on an ESPN network…but not tennis.

My daughter was the state tennis champ as a sophmore three years ago. As good as she was we knew she really didn’t have a shot at a pac or big 12 scholarship. We focused on pickleball where she excelled and got sponsored (paid) to play right away. She is having way more fun competing at the pro level in pickleball and playing for her college club team. As a tennis/pickle dad I can tell you junior tennis was no fun. Pickleball is fun and growing. International players are ruining college tennis.

My stance on US Vs International recruiting. College tennis is an extremely competitive industry with so many great programs, coaches and options for recruits. Tennis is an international sport, right? Also factor in academic requirements. You can’t always get who you want!! @PatrickMcEnroe let’s talk 👍🏻
