@hordrackcafe There’s an eponymous album from 1980 that is stacked with songs that are highly playlist friendly. If you like that genre, it’s unfathomable to me that anyone couldn’t look past Cave to appreciate the music, particularly the extraordinary guitar playing of Rowland S Howard.

The funny thing about this totally epic Nick Cave quote is that RHCP have made more good music than he has across the like five or six different bands he's had by this point

The one that grew in my affection after initially hating it is AYAMW. It’s mad!

@GalacticCookie0 @willmenaker @mgs2twiops ‘Extricate’ has great songs but doesn’t hang together as much as an album as their other great works. The three after are really good, those ones are definitely underrated. I rate the production, though understand why many don’t. They don’t have many duds & quite a few bangers.

@apirloneil @willmenaker @mgs2twiops I respectfully disagree. A large chunk of their best work is on those albums. I do love how low key they are. Head down, crack on LPs through a swarm of bullshit. I haven’t even mentioned Extricate! FHR has a lot in common with that one. I like Unutterable but it played poor live

@GalacticCookie0 @willmenaker @mgs2twiops I go back to ‘Levitate’ every so often to see if I can get my head around it but I think it’s the one where the external stuff around MES & the band seeped into the music too much & it sounds a bit all over the shop as a result. I still dig it but it’s amongst my least favourite.

@apirloneil @willmenaker @mgs2twiops Levitate is one of their most underrated albums for me. Feels like it’s crumbling as you listen to it. I love its sense of humour. The demonic clown like album cover. Im a Mummy, Jungle Rock covers. Even a Pete Seeger folk song cover. Masquerade is one of my favourite Fall songs

@GalacticCookie0 @willmenaker @mgs2twiops I think the early 90s trilogy listed there is all very good but I hesitate to call them top tier. They’re all steady but without high highs. However, I think Unutterable is much better than the previous two albums. FHR great but a little long & unfocused. You must get them all!

@apirloneil @willmenaker @mgs2twiops The Infotainment Scan and Fall Heads Roll aren’t top shelf? What about Bend Sinister and Kurious Oranj? I always treat Levitate, Marshall Suite and Unnutterable as one big album. Same with the early 90’s ones. Shift Work, Code Selfish, Infotainment Scan. They still stand alone.

@robinhatch Sort of mad how Bruce & Pete Thomas (no relation) happened to come to the same audition & so quickly formed one of the best rhythm sections of their era.
