@jus2poulet @Andarin1101 @Empireaesth oui mas en réalité il y a une erreur sur l’image, gunorra est 100% danoise (ce qui est exceptionnel) donc william était 12.5% danois

Your mixing up ancestry, language, and political identity. Yes, English kings after 1066 had Norman (French) ancestry and spoke French at court, but that doesnt make England “French” any more than speaking Latin made medieval Europe Roman. What we now call “France” wasnt a unified nation back then either. It was a patchwork of regions Normandy, Aquitaine, Brittany, each with its own identity and even its own language. If history had gone differently, the dominant culture might just as easily have been Breton, Norman, or Occitan rather than Parisian French. The Normans themselves are a good example they were originally Norse settlers who became French speaking, then ruled England. So even calling them simply “French” is already an oversimplification. Politically, English kings were ruling England as English kings, even when they held lands in France. And by the time of Agincourt, English had re emerged as the primary language of the monarchy anyway. So yes, theres french influence but thats not the same thing as England being French.

@Querain491 @magicinthealps i couldn’t care less about romanticism tbf, just needed to tell how superior ours is by the way it’s likely that every gothic abbeys, cathedrals and churches in england were designed by frenchmen

France and Italy are considered 'romantic' by many Anglos, and for a good reason, with Lake Como, Cannes, Paris, Rome, Venice, Saint-Tropez often making the ideal backdrop for a Hollywood story between lovers. Yet the heart of European romanticism is Germany.

@Querain491 @magicinthealps the english countryside is lovely but it’s nowhere near as the french countryside, our diversity in terms of nature and architecture is simply superior

Ah yes the famous countryside of Normandy. Noted for being totally identical to the English countryside in every single way. Its also very telling what your reaction is, considering the actual English countryside itself was a very small part of my point. You just dont get it. Because you dont have a romantic teuton soul.

I don't care about Napoleon either. He was beaten by an Irish and Prussian general. The reason I pointed out Napoleons identity is because the french person was boasting about him being more famous and I thought humility is a virtue. Everything you told me about the monarchy I already knew. There is only one English king that has "the great," added to his name. Alfred the Great. But he he was Anglo Saxon so also Germanic just like the ancient Frankish kingdom where the name France comes from. We both have German ancestors

Did pointing out Napoleon was Italian offend you? It's true the first king to speak English was Edward 1st but he was still french. Does that mean every evil act commited by the English Monarchy is actually Frances guilt not England's? It was the Norman kings that invaded Ireland, Wales, Scotland and so on

@HistoryUpheld @LSunaa732 yes it’s debatable but i also think that he was culturally english and promoted english identity you’ve got to be one of the only english to admit that he’s indeed french and not of viking or scandinavian bullshit background🤣

@apolopa26876 @LSunaa732 That's fair, people can agree to disagree. Henry V role in helping English Nationalism and Shakespeare is a large factor why he is celebrated. He rebelled away from certain customs like language which made him more culturally English, but genetically of course he's French.

@apolopa26876 @LSunaa732 See this is my point, people can have a laugh about these videos and some people start foaming at the mouth. I have no issues with English people claiming their nation, even if Henry V was ethnically French. The HYW resulted in a lot of Cannon-Fodder from all sides, brutal.

@magicinthealps The soul of European romanticism is England. The Dutch may have the paintings, and the Germans the literature. But England has the poetry, and the perfect romanticist countryside. Romanticism exudes the ruins of an English abbey on a rolling green hill.
