Perched dramatically on a hill overlooking the Drwęca River, Golub Castle is one of the most picturesque medieval fortresses in northern Poland. With its striking red-brick walls, elegant turrets, and green copper domes, it’s a perfect example of Gothic architecture blended with later Renaissance touches. A Short History: ➡️ Built in the 13th century by the Teutonic Knights as a stronghold during their conquest of the region. ➡️ In 1410, after the famous Battle of Grunwald, the castle was captured by Polish forces under King Władysław Jagiełło. ➡️ It later became a royal residence and was significantly expanded and renovated in the 16th–17th centuries, giving it its current elegant appearance. ➡️ Over the centuries it served as a fortress, noble residence, and even a prison. Today it’s beautifully restored and open to visitors.
