i feel like the purpose of fanfiction is lost when people start considering it’s something that should be appealing to an audience rather than something that only need to appeal to one specific person (the writer).

I’m using this as an example, but I have been dealing with this a lot lately. Writing is a hobby for me find joy and escapism in, I never imagined that one day I would have so many people engaging with my work, and I am so deeply grateful and flattered by that… but also somewhere along the way I started running into this more and more frequently. I’ve been receding from social media to avoid commentary like this because it really messes with my head. (1/3) But it’s harder and harder to avoid now.

@OpalApparition I hope you can do something you love during your break, and I hope you feel better. This fandom might not deserve your craft but I hope that, if writing is still fun for you and makes you happy, that when you come back you can find a more welcoming and supportive environment.

@OpalApparition Your writing is one of the most compelling and engaging I've read in a while. It's heartbreaking to me that people cannot see how incredible it is to have access to this level of quality for free, to have someone writing so good just for fun and for the love of the characters.
