Plenty of worms, but plenty of compaction after harvest too.

Does anyone know if the FETF #farming equipment and technology fund is likely to open again in 2024? @NFUtweets ? Or has all the money been spent? 🙏

@farmerpratty Olly, we’ve grazed for a few years. Happy to share what we’ve learned. Biggest thing has been to move them every day with a back fence, and have a plan B if you get heavy rain. You can graze really hard for that one day though. They do well on it too.

@aptrickett Better in hay as long as you don't beat all the clover out of it.

Baled hay vs silage for feeding 🐄 cattle indoors over winter…? Is there a preference if the weather would allow either to be made? From a ley of clover, cocksfoot, chicory and plantain…

@aptrickett Are you wanting to push them on over winter or just build some frame?

@No1FarmerJake Thanks Jake. Normally don’t have problems on these fields, guess it’s all the rain. Hope yours gets away

@aptrickett I feel your pain Alistair, battling with slugs on the emerging OSR, worst ever.

Frustrating start to a new herbal ley. 45Ha direct drilled. Very slow to emerge but had plenty of moisture. Then when it does, gets eaten 😞

Herbal ley slowly emerging after 10 days in the ground. Nail biting stuff with £8,500 spent on seed.

@DavidAglen We have a winner. That was also a good bit of field to start with strong plants, but the sheep certainly did no damage

Interesting: left me wondering what would've happened had Labour just said, "If you think we're going to give up on a policy that will improve thousands of kids' lives just to try to win a by-election, forget it. We're just not that kind of party." opendemocracy.net/en/uxbridge-so…
