This is a death blossom of a response, treating a shameful and insanely rare archaic practice (my mother was forced to marry at 15 in an obscure evangelical sect in the Appalachians and it ruined her life, which is why I actually do care about this issue) as if it’s practiced on par with Muslim countries like Iran and Afghanistan is shameful. Of course those laws need to be changed and women need to be protected: I’ve told my mother’s story many times. But here you are defending a cultural practice given the stamp of approval by religion because….why exactly? Why is it so hard to condemn child marriage with your full chest like I’m doing?
