Yeah I guess you got a point. I mean if you’re trying to become a world class mathematician that can win a Field’s Medal you need to start early or else you might not have a chance……. SIKE! Last person to win a field’s medal didn’t even major in math in college he majored in Journalism!!!! He didn’t start doing any real math until his *checks notes* 6th YEAR IN COLLEGE. You can literally GRIND your way to ANYTHING !!!!

In our textbook, Modern Principles @tylercowen and I liken this effect to dating: "Imagine how difficult it would be to get a date if every date required marriage? In the same way, it’s more difficult to find a job when every job requires a long-term commitment from the employer."
Jordan Taylor@Jordan_W_Taylor

The Economist published this article that's contentious but probably right: It argues that laws protecting labour in much of Europe make lay-offs so onerous that high-risk moonshot projects become unviable. Making it easier to fire people could, weirdly, benefit everyone.

I like billion $ software failing on me. Had to italic some lines in WhatsApp. Its syntax is line oriented, but the editor is unaware of it. So it puts the markup only at two ends of selection, which doesn't make the lines be italic. One has to do it for individual lines. @Meta

I wish more successful people wrote recollections of all their failures and what they learned from each of them. The success was just the inevitable result of persisting through all the failures. As long as you only focus on the good times, people will think they can only become successful if they have your luck or perfection, instead of seeing that you’re as normal a person as them and therefore they can make it through their hard times and it can mean something incredible

So much organizational dysfunction is created by managers who desperately want magic thinking and general policies to relieve them from having tough conversations.

In wire protocols, the initial "hello" message is just a phrase the creator chose. For example, email uses HELO (yes, HELO), TCP uses SYN. Give me your most creative "I want to establish a connection" messages for a wire protocol to use.

Soybean vein necrosis showing up in Alabama. The virus is spread mainly by soybean thrips. It is more common during drier summers late in season. A 3 year study suggested it was not a yield reducer in Alabama; more of a cosmetic disease @CropNetwork #Virus

People *really* underestimate the logistics involved in getting to this price point at scale, gigantic monstrous scale. It's so hard to farm at this level, and the margins are razor thin.

The EU Chat Control proposal would be a catastrophe for Europe. It would seal Europeans behind a new digital Berlin wall, cut off from Signal and other e2e messengers. It's embarrassing and dangerous that it's gotten this close already. Time to bail to back to sanity.
Signal@signalapp

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/germ…

Nix without the drama at the cost of being unfree. But you can use the core nix tool without the Determinate parts and get a better experience than CppNix Just add the flake to your inputs & use the nix package from its outputs
