@thecodybroten @univercemtg Being a fast clock is okay, but being extremely difficult to interact with by blocking or targeting it gives it much less counterplay than phlage does. Phlage comes down later and is at least vulnerable to graveyard hate (notwithstanding the consign its ETB sac trick)

@arbitraryarmor @univercemtg It's a 2-3 turn clock, but shouldn't it be when it has such a high build around cost? It doesnt prevent you from losing the game like the lifegain of Phlage or recur itself from the gy through the normal course of your gameplan. Kappa was more fair before Pinnacle Emissary.

i like the bans overall but how the fuck is kappa not a problem if phlage and titan are like cmon what are we doing

@thecodybroten @univercemtg I feel strongly that kappa effectively ends a ton of games on the spot; it's typically a 2 turn clock, and being unblockable and having ward 4 makes an early kappa have extremely little counterplay to it.

@univercemtg Kappa isn't a card advantage engine and requires a much higher build around. Nor does it often end the game on the spot or recur from the graveyard by playing your normal gameplan. Lol This was an open book test pal.

@toothymtg1 My personal opinion is that bans should happen when the gameplay quality and viable deck diversity would substantially improve, relative to the harm caused by bans. Many of the play patterns in standard are overwhelming, to the extent that it's difficult for new decks to emerge.

seeing content creators complain that there were no bans in standard every b&r is a reminder that most content creators are not good at magic. it’s completely unreasonable to think this month’s metagame information conveys a format needing bans, +the gameplay is great
