Joined Uber as Software Engineer 2. Should be fun.

It has been almost a year since I have been living alone now, and I have realised that I am the most productive when I am completely alone, I don't have to justify any of my actions to anybody and I don't get distracted by what others are doing. It comes at a cost of having to pay a higher rent but that gets nullified with the money I save as I don't go out as much.

just want to keep things on record. my long-term goal is to solve hard problems in the field of biology, and there is a serious reason for this. my surname "sengupta" and my ancestors, clan, and gotra were all part of the medicine and ayurveda community. my great-grandfathers and grandfather were doctors. my family members are all indirectly or directly related to medicine or medical practices. i have grown up hearing thousands of discussions on surgeries and medicines, and have seen my grandfather treat 1000s of patients. but is this the only thing that always comes to my subconscious mind? no. almost all deaths i have seen in my family are due to this incurable disease called "cancer", and this has been in my family for a long time now. i have lost my own to cancer, and again today the man who treated 1000s of patients is suffering from last-stage cancer. i was so desperate to solve this that in college, i interned at a startup where i researched brain cancer, but then i quickly understood that i alone cannot solve this problem. i need to understand how the business world works, how things are solved at scale, how clinical trials are done, how to gather talent and r&d money to help people solve this disease. i still do not have a clear path for that, but rest assured whatever i am doing now is for the greater goal of the future that i see: solving cancer and giving life to those who deserve it the most. lots of work to do before that.

2.5 years ago, I took some crazy decisions - Didn't accept the return offer from my internship - Quit my first job in 3 months without an offer. - Quit my second job in 2 months. Post that - I went to ICPC World Finals. - Joined Google and got promoted in 1.5 yrs. - Now, I am about to complete 2 years here. Things I swear by now. - Quit or walk away from opportunities you don't want, as soon as possible. - Do not let the world decide how you live your life. Work really very hard so that you have options to choose from.

All good things in my life have required me to spend at least 3 years on them. As long as you keep quitting things too early, you will never reap the benefits of anything and would always keep regretting. Commit to things and people, don’t just walk away due to inconveniences.

Working on a side hustle while ensuring you excel at your main job means you can’t live a slow life. You have to be absolutely ruthless in saying No to almost everything. You do things that seem absolutely foolish to others, you spend weekends resting or hustling, to the outside world you are only existing (not really living), you are zoned out in most conversations because you are thinking how to solve something. The list doesn’t end. When you see somebody around you like this, don’t judge them because even if you do, they simply don’t care as they’re too zoned out in their own thoughts 🥲

Six senior employees at TCS Nashik were arrested last week. Charges include sexual harassment of junior women colleagues over four years. 2022 to 2026. At least eight women and one male employee filed complaints. Police say the accused identified financially vulnerable women during the hiring process itself. They collected income and family background details during interviews. Then targeted those specific employees. When one victim reported it to HR she was told to stay cool. That some gestures were common in MNCs. Police said that HR response effectively enabled the accused. Nine FIRs filed. SIT formed. Cases registered under MCOCA. TCS has made no public statement. This is not about one company. This is about every IT office in India where junior employees from smaller towns with no financial safety net are the most vulnerable. If you or someone you know faces this at any company file a complaint directly with your Internal Complaints Committee under the POSH Act. No lawyer needed. It is the law.
