Unpopular opinion : I am more interested in BYD establishing themselves in India rather than Tesla. Tesla, it they launch in India, will only be a car for the 1% of the 1% of us. It will hardly make a difference in the grand scheme of things. However if we dream of mass vehicular electrification, we need can learn a lot from BYD. This was a company which started in 2003 and today is the largest EV car manufacturer in the world, and has beaten Tesla in China. Moreover, they make their own power train, their own batteries and have cars at all price points. For example, Their latest launch Seagull, is a sub Rs 10 lakh car with a range of almost 300 kms. In the last 20 years, BYD has built from ground up, their entire EV value chain and control all of it. Today, they are one of the most technologically advanced EV automobile manufacturers in the world, ahead of a lot of traditional automotive powerhouses. If India needs to have a strong domestic EV industry, which competes with the world, then our reference Should be BYD. Not Tesla.
