In 1876, residents of northern #Maine informed county commissioners that "common convenience and necessity require a county road leading from New Sweden . . . to Fort Kent, by the most direct and feasible route," which would run between Cross and Mud lakes. #Acadians 1/3

The flu's most famous local victim was the pastor of Eagle Lake, Joseph Marcoux. Fatal accidents reflected the gendered aspect of occupational hazards. In Eagle Lake and Wallagrass, fatalities due to burns were all female; the four drowning deaths were men. #genealogy #genchat
