The concept of social housing as a lifetime entitlement makes no sense. Social housing should be given only to those who need it because of their circumstances, once their circumstances improve sufficiently they should buy or rent on the private market. There are people in social housing earning good money, living better than other people who aren’t entitled to social housing. How is this fair?

People wanting to learn more about what good Social Housing looks like and a model of how it can work should look to places like Vienna as an example. Social Housing can and does work. We’ve just been monumentally crap at recognising it here.

@OBEhizele I look at it from this perspective people were essentially shoved into the violent and crime ridden areas of London places that were considered undesirable for investors. People stayed there for decades and now in the last decade it’s become safe people want them to leave.

Growing up in inner London, council estates were rarely seen as aspirational. But London’s housing crisis has reshaped perceptions. When the alternative is paying huge rent for a room in Zone 4, proximity to central London itself becomes a form of privilege.

Had 5 TV channels growing up. Watched the FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, Milk Cup, World Cup, Confederations Cup (and I’m sure others) all free to watch. Kids of today will simply not get into the sport in the same way. It’s sad. Not to mention it costs £100 to go to a game these days.
