Throughout my career one advice has turned to be timeless no matter how much ai advancement and such. "Premature optimization is the root of all evil". small teams that go after fancy sass tools will learn the hard way they didn't need it after wasting a lot of money. The opposite is also true, once you grow large enough paying for a good sass will always be cheaper than having to maintain an in house version. My advice is to use the correct tooling for the current scale.

in jan we migrated to a monorepo and have since replaced: - notion docs → markdown - hosted prompts service → in-house prompts package - webflow → next.js - posthog feature flags → yaml files no SaaS is safe in 2026
