@frahnetic it completely depends on the register and the fact that you are oblivious to this proves my point about functional illiteracy i fear

@ariesbbz I'm giving you a studied statistic from sources with the numbers, not from my opinion. It's not my opinion that urdu has less than 25% of farsi derived words. If you disagree a source or your own working would be good

i don’t think you can become truly fluent in a language that borrows its script and a significant proportion of its loan words from another language without an intro to that language

Why should Pakistani kids learn Persian? It was once an imperial import and it doesn’t hold that value anymore, and now has been overtaken by another imperial import, i.e English which still holds great value for a student’s future career. They might as well learn Chinese.

@ariesbbz Why isn't it close? The study of Latin & classics is irrelevant because no one claims that it's necessary to be fluent in English properly, which is the claim you're making and I'm addressing. But you're struggling to understand a really basic sentence so maybe you have a point

@frahnetic if you want to speak about the weather sure, that’s not true for shudh urdu.. there’s a difference between formal/informal registers lol the vast majority of koreans can also speak basic korean well, the elimination of hanja destroyed their comprehension of higher registers

@ariesbbz But you are right, it's not close. 85% of English comes from Latin, french and German. Only 25% of urdu comes from farsi and arabic.

@DARVOFACTORY also persian was relevant until the late 19th century .. latin was still academically important despite its relevance diminishing long ago, good schools still teach it til date soooo

@BeanstalkerJake illiteracy + avoiding the reality that we need a simplified script that circumvents romanisation which reinforces the former
