Why do we “know that’s all wrong now”? According to what standard? If there is no universal objective morality and “religion” (whatever you mean by that term) just embraced what the cultures of the time saw fit, then morality can keep changing and is totally arbitrary, which means nothing is really right or wrong. It’s just whatever human opinion finds satisfying, noble, and appealing at whatever time in whatever place in whatever age. So, there’s no justification for anything you just said.
