The Value of the Rupee to 01 US Dollar on 16 th May 2014 was Rs 58.78 ( the day the UPA government demitted office. On 12 th May 2026 the value of the Rupee to 01 US Dollar was Rs 95.63 Remember those nasty quips way back in 2013 by @BJP4India about the Rupee rising faster than Late Dr Manmohan Singh’s age Whose age in the @BJP4India is the Rupee competing with now ? For context on 22nd May 2004 - Rupee to the US Dollar was at Rs 45.19 ? 2004- Rs 45.19 2014- Rs 58.78 2026- 95.63 2014 -2026 is the story of India’s economic mismanagement.

Citizens are told to cut down consumption, avoid purchases, reduce travel and sacrifice in the name of the nation. But PM @narendramodi’s politics continues to run on extravagance. Expensive events, endless publicity, full-page advertisements, massive roadshows, election spectacles and taxpayer-funded image management. There is no austerity in the Government’s propaganda. No austerity in Vishwaguru’s political rallies. No austerity in his self-promotion. No austerity in the machinery built around his image. The poor are asked to consume less. The middle class is asked to pay more. And the Prime Minister’s politics continues to spend more, advertise more, travel more and celebrate more. Austerity for the citizen. Extravagance for the ruler is the Modi model of development.

After programmes in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, landed in Jamnagar a short while ago. Upon landing, addressed a public meeting in the city. Thanked the people of Gujarat for their continuous blessings for the BJP. It is rare for a party to get so much support over decades and as time has passed, this support has only risen.

@LtGenDPPandey Genral saab, you are incorrect. We are not used to freebies, the political parties use freebies to win elections, buy votes. Lets ruling parties pullback all freebies. We will be a better nation. Voting will also be prudent.

@LtGenDPPandey Ok General saab. But, we learnt to use video conferencing and technology has evolved too. So, why can’t we lead by example. If citizens are expected to sacrifice, our leaders should lead by example. Since you emphasized on working, is election campaigning considered working?

Let me make it simple for everyone point by point 1. Gold is imported from abroad & costs India huge foreign currency. Every gold purchase drains our national reserves. Modi ji has urged us to skip gold for just 1 year. The FOMO needs to pause for a while 2. Commuting daily burns massive amounts of petrol & diesel. WFH worked brilliantly during COVID, it can work again that's why Modi ji wants offices & companies to encourage WFH culture 3. India imports most of its oil from abroad at very high costs. Global oil prices have nearly doubled due to the US-Iran war. Every litre you save is money staying inside India. 4. Foreign vacations and abroad weddings send Indian money out of India. That's a hammer on our foreign exchange reserves that's why Modi ji has requested to pause foreign trips for just 1 year. 5. Every foreign product you buy sends money out of our country. Indian alternatives are now world class & easily available. Choosing Made in India creates jobs for fellow Indians.
Indian Tech & Infra@IndianTechGuide

🚨 Prime Minister Narendra Modi today: - Stop buying gold. - Bring back the work-from-home culture. - Save petrol and diesel. - Avoid foreign trips and destination weddings. - Stop importing foreign products.

Totally in agreement with @PMOIndia on curtailing travel, fuel use etc. If it’s a global crisis, and beyond our control, self discipline will be the best foot forward. However, I also have a suggestion for @narendramodi ji. 🙏 Sir, collectively we have close to 5000 MLAs and MPs in India. Whenever they move, official vehicles aside, they are accompanied by hordes of followers and supporters. Never seen even an MLA with less than 5-8 vehicle convoy. And sometimes these cavalcades run into hundreds of vehicles. And political leaders, across parties, travel daily to multiple locations. The convoys never shorten nor stop. You can add 2-3 independent vehicle convoys to immediate families of entire number too, just for calculations. Collectively, we are talking about hundreds and thousands of vehicles daily, running for no apparent reason other than accompanying the leader and ‘to be seen’, and clocking millions of miles each day. Sir, if you can direct these leaders, to cut down these illogical miles, it not only would help the present initiative, but also set a case for better future where twenty cars with horns blaring on roads don’t push commoners like us aside because the leader has to travel by supersonic speed to fashionably arrive late at his / her next function. You’ve been a common citizen like us. You didn’t inherit the chair and power. I’m sure you understand the sheer insult and disgust we feel when bulky bouncers and cops hanging out from pilot and other vehicles just shove other vehicles around. So you will be resolving this crassness and unruly behaviour too. Practical problems are surface repressions of deep rooted cultural issues. Like your Swach Bharat initiative. No amount of infrastructure can keep India clean if we don’t stop throwing garbage on roads. I think, in the same manner, car pooling, minimising travel, not running ACs in cars in parking because the VIP cannot ensure 20 seconds of heat while the car cools when AC is switched on, traveling by public transport - all are more of cultural issue than practical ones. And I’m very sure, a step taken by leaders will go a long way in making your initiative successful, sir. Jai Hind - An Indian citizen.

A War is ongoing in the Middle East & so far India has managed the situation brilliantly both diplomatically & with least impact to consumers. Many countries are suffering. I had a word with my friends in Middle East, very unpredictable situation there. Yesterday, our PM Modi requested our support to ensure that the resources are utilized effectively. It was not a call of Despair. It was a Speech which would benefit all of us. Yes, definitely, there are many flaws with the Central Government. We can disagree on multiple things they have done. But at this war time, let us come together and do our bit by consuming wisely. Let politics not blind us. If someone is trolling PM for urging us to consume wisely, the joke is on them. I hope we will buy lesser gold this year, use more public transport & be more cognizant !!! #FI

Nation First Duty Above Comfort! PM @narendramodi gave 7 important appeals to strengthen India during challenging global times prioritize work from home wherever possible, reduce fuel consumption, avoid foreign travel for a year, adopt Swadeshi products, cut down cooking oil usage, move towards natural farming and reduce unnecessary gold purchases. A collective spirit of responsibility can make India stronger and more self-reliant. #LeadershipOfPMModi

When AAP lost Delhi in 2025, I was on DeKoder where they were dissecting what AAP did wrong leading to its loss. I had asked Dr Pranoy Roy, “Sir what could you have done differently to save NDTV? We are all victims of an authoritarian power grab. Let’s call it like it is.” The post Bengal election analysis reminds me of that moment. By discussing an electoral verdict in terms of simple politics, we are legitimizing the BJP’s overturning of our democracy. That’s why I have never been on any Indian media debate since - because it all mostly is narrative building for the dictatorship.
