Women never evolved the urge to band together and raid nearby villages for husbands because their ability to have children isn’t limited by the number of available men. Risking their lives to find more partners would bring no benefit. There are no examples—among hunter-gatherers, early farming groups, or modern societies—of women forming groups to invade other communities and capture men. The opposite has happened many times. Throughout history, men have joined forces to raid or wage war partly to capture women as wives or concubines. From tribal raids to ancient empires, male coalitions often sought reproductive chances through power and violence. Even among powerful women, this difference holds. Queen Elizabeth I never built a harem of men. Cleopatra, despite her influence, chose powerful partners like Julius Caesar and Mark Antony instead of gathering many lovers. Across time and culture, men and women show different mating patterns that stay consistent even when status changes. The logic is simple: a man can father many children at once with multiple women, but a woman can have only one child at a time, no matter how many partners she has. This biological difference shapes behavior—men tend to seek variety, while women tend to seek safety and selectivity.
