After 1.5 years of major visibility surges for thousands of forums, I am seeing early signs of major drops among some forum sites.. This is a small sample, but a pretty clear trend IMO.

@arnoldkim Random note - on MacRumors mobile it seems like the ads take over the page and often reorient where I've scrolled to. It's disorienting and makes me leave the site. I love MacRumors (reader for 20 years) and wanted to let you know.

MacRumors Twitter got hacked. Complex Pw, two factor enabled, activity shows “Twitter for iPhone” from foreign ip as likely source. They didn’t change pw or log out other accounts so don’t think they had orig pw. Theories on how?

@arnoldkim Cookie theft? Happens on YouTube quite frequently. Possible it happened to a service provider too.

@lilyraynyc Hah. There’s a setting in account privacy that lets you turn off search engine indexing

Fun fact: if your IG is set to public, your personal reels are indexable and viewable in the "Video" tab of Google Search 🙃

Web publishers going out of business shouldn’t feel normal. @thelloydcoombes/how-google-took-my-job-and-how-yours-could-be-next-23f2c47d611a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@thelloydcoomb

Today is the last (official) day of @GGReconGaming (although we've all been away for two weeks) I've wanted to put my thoughts together and have done so over on Medium, but the long and short of it is that Google is killing publishers - we weren't the first, and we won't be the last. @thelloydcoombes/how-google-took-my-job-and-how-yours-could-be-next-23f2c47d611a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@thelloydcoomb

I haven’t posted about @toucharcade shutdown before. In reality the writing was on the wall for TouchArcade for years. The fact we hung on for as long as we did is surprising. There were a lot of factors as to why a mobile gaming site wasn’t ultimately viable, but certainly the rise of free to play contributed a lot. Apple’s rules against apps that promote other apps also was a major setback for us. I was very proud of the TouchArcade app back in the day. When we started TouchArcade, I believed it had a much higher potential ceiling than @MacRumors . The early days of iOS gaming had a real entrepreneurial vibe amongst all the early developers. It felt like the start of something new. Many of the early developers we met at that first GDC went on to become super successful with just one or two person teams. In reading the comments about TouchArcade’s demise, I love how many people have such fond memories of the early days — from both readers and developers who appreciated our sincere effort to surface great games in a sea of app releases. We had such a great team throughout. Thanks to everyone who supported us!
